Affordable depends on a lot of different things. I am searching for a more realistic price on insurance currently. Insurance quotes are all over the place and not always apples to apples. So far the best prices for real world apples to apples pricing have been from lowest to highest GEICO, Progressive, National General. Others that were not even close to realistic were Safeco, Allied, Nationwide, and Farmers. The Hartford would not provide a quote on any coach over $100,000 for a new policy?? So it looks like when my motorhome is due for renewal in August I will be leaving State Farm and going with GEICO.
Better give Allstate a shot and they beat the SF policy we had, at last go around. Don't insure for more than what you can get them to accept either, since they have to pay and even for a total loss, no matter what they agreed to insure it for. Just like with buying anything else, shock them with a low price value. - jerseyjimExplorerI've had National Interstate from day 1 (2001) 2 claims...never a problem. Declining deductible, starting at 500 bucks...now, I'm down to $0.
Around $450/year for a "book value" policy. A full "replacement" policy might go for at least double that. - msmith1199Explorer IIYou may want to rethink your deductible and do the math. It's possible that a $1000 deductible may save you $1000 every four or five years (or sooner). Calculate that by the number of times you're awning will get blown off?
Also with Progressive, they have a reducing deductible for every year you don't make a claim. My dedecuctible was reduced to zero a long time ago since I've never filed a claim. So even though my stated deductible is $1000, the first time my power awning blows off it won't cost me a dime. But then I'll be back to $1000 after that, but it will reduce again. - lryrob9301Explorer

Well it seems GEICO is trying to pull a fast one. When I got the quote there was nothing mentioned about my coach being a "high value" coach thus requiring a car being insured along with it. When I called back to purchase they added this little tidbit. Also they wanted a minimum $1000 deductible on the comprehensive. So if a wind came up and ripped the awning off I had to pay the first $1000. No Thanks, very deceptive quoting a policy. - msmith1199Explorer IILots of differences in RV policies too. I have progressive and I've been happy with them, but I've never filed a claim either, so that makes them happy with me. One thing I did notice a few years back was my policy kept going up quite a bit each year. So I started looking at what I could do about that and I discovered that my Progressive policy insured my motorhome for the full purchase price in the event of a total loss, regardless of age or value. That only would pay toward the purchase price of a new motorhome. That sounds like a great deal, and it is, but it's also very expensive coverage and that is what was causing the price to go up. So I had progressive knock about $70k off that original value and just insure me at that level and that reduced the premium by quite a bit.
- johnsonbertExplorerYou might try FMCA to see what they can do, we went with them this year and it was a smooth transition. Progressive went up 45% in year 3, so could not deal with that. Hope this may help. Happy Trails Bert
- Tal_ILExplorerI've had State Farm on all my vehicles for many years. Had a claim for roof replacement on motorhome a couple of years ago and was pleasantly surprised at how quickly and painlessly it was handled. I basically put the claims people in touch with my dealer and they handled everything except endorsing the check.
- reppoc12ExplorerThe Good Sam Club gave me the best rate this time (yes, I was surprised). I tried them several years ago and they were very, but this time they gave me a better rate than I got from another agent for the same coverage with Progressive. Worth a phone call in my opinion.

X2. we've had State Farm on all our vehicles since 1970. that should tell you sonething. SF is a good choice unless you are a fulltimer. - Dutch_12078Explorer IIAre you looking for full-timer or part-timer insurance. Full-timer insurance includes loss coverages that are normally provided by homeowners or renters insurance for part-time RV use, and is much more costly than the more basic vehicle coverage insurance. Progressive offers both types of coverage, and I've found their rates, at least for my domicile area, to be very competitive.
