where is the fuse for the steps

too many fuses up front..does not appear to be in the rear 12v house panel

something has gotten wet..and the steps are stuck OUT..will not retract

the step light is NOT working..so i'm thinking fuse..not the potted control board..although it could be the motor

i'm not crawling under the RV in the rain to check step power
want to find fuse and verify power available or not

i'm not moving until i can retract the step
either by replacing the fuse
OR
things dry out enough for me to crawl under there and disconnect and tie the step in the retracted position with rope or bungees
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

The step is 1995
The control module is potted and was replaced about six~eight years ago

Back in the spring.. step would not go out
Found broken wire...open circuit... I the sense switch, which is how I know about the retract failure mode

Always step out...kill/remove power...before working on step mechanism
I can explain it to you.

Your step may be from a time when replacement of the control module was required to cure problems with the dependability of the step operation. Year of manufacture would be a big help.

Be careful working on the steps. If they start moving when you are working on or around them, they can do a lot of damage.

i got the step UP by fiddling with the wires on the door sense switch

it seems the switch has gotten soaked and is "internally" shorted..
permanently closed contact..meaning door open

going to need a new magnetic "reed" switch

perhaps tomorrow things will be a little dryer outside and i can work on things

at least i won't need to lay on the wet ground in the rain

i can now drive the RV if need be
I can explain it to you.

Yes, the "ignition hot" fuse box is the one to check (vs the others that are house battery powered).

i will post over there
BUT more people here, figured i might get a faster response
some circuits are only HOT when the ignition is on
so i have to turn on the KEY and stand in the rain and check all 39? fuses
I can explain it to you.

Post over on the Safari Yahoo site:https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/SafariCoaches/conversations/messages

Someone on there probably has the labels for their fuse boxes.

Worse case is to use a test light or voltmeter to check the "far" side of each fuse in all three. Probably a 10 minute job.

yes.. i tried that.. answer is NO..
they should auto retract..they did not
the control switch.. over the door is ON
and..the door sense switch is "FAIL WITH STEP RETRACTED"
if switch fails steps will not go out

i know there is the possibly of old wiring being wet
and it will work when dried out..

thing is I can't/won't move it until i can get the step retracted

No flood danger .. just a dag gone nuisance
I can explain it to you.

Please tell us the year and model.

On our 1997 Sahara, the fuses are accessible by opening the front cap below windshield. On the driver's side are 3 fuse boxes. Should have labels on the lids.

Later models had these in the forward most driver's side basement compartment ahead of the front wheel.

Have you tried starting the engine to see if they retract?
