Shower drain plumbing outside access

I have a 2001 Pace Arrow Vision.
I have a outside access to my shower drain under driver side rear wheelwell. The cover is made of tin about 6 inch square. The cover needs replaced as it is deteriorating. Has anyone had to replace this on there coach. Looks like I will have to make one out of tin, bend and shape then screw on.
Any advise would be appreciated.
  • I removed the rear wheels go get access, made a aluminum plate from 12 gauge to fit, pop riveted it to the good sheet metal and coated it with undercoating. My tub drain had a bad glue joint, I had to redo it.
  • "Rambler"....Many coaches place access points like this in the wheel wells for slides, plumbing etc. Use you jacks to lift the body as high as is safe and then block the body with some supports so it doesn't fall. This will typically give you more space to work. Once you install the new plate use some spray on rubberized undercoating to cover it. Available at your auto parts store.
  • Make sure you seal it. The access cover in the Sahara was loose and all the road grit under the shower made quite the mess. I screwed it back down then shot expanding foam on top (I have another access panel in the bedroom).
  • If you are going to go to Home Depot, get a 2'x2' sheet of aluminum and fix it once instead of using the same material as before. Besides just buying one sheet of aluminum may be cheaper than buying a whole roll of roof flashing.
  • Thanks for the quick response.
I didn't think of that but sounds good.
It is just a difficult spot to work with?
Located right above rear dually tires.
    Thanks Again

  • Galvanized roof flashing from Lowes or home Depot. Get a small roll and make your cover out of that. Use self drilling sheet metal screws about every inch and seal with RTV. A pair of tin snips a vise some wood blocks for forms and a hammer and your set. If you have to revisit the area in the future just remove the screws and run your box cutter around the sealed area and your in.
