shower stall crack

The crack is on the wall, not the pan, and the crack emerges from behind the door frame, and appears to originate from a screw hole.

I haven't taken it apart yet, but it seems that the scenario DutchmenSport presents is what happened - I need to make the screw holes in the wall and floor larger so they can flex. But only after after I drill a hole at each end of the crack to keep it from spreading.

X-2, might not look good but it will stop the leak. And that's the main thing, you don't want water leaking into your coach as you know.

If the shower is fiberglass a place that repairs showers can repair it.Had two bathtubs crack Loews sent sent some one and repaired it.they reinforced it could not tell it had been repaired.Check with lowes or home depot.

I had a crack on my shower wall just above the shower pan which leaked and I went to WalMart and got some stick on none slip pads that normally go on the bottom of the shower where you won't slip they looked like a Tuna about 6 inches long cleaned the spot and stuck to wall it has been there for 5 years no leak!

Repair or replace. Make sure you have plywood platform to support from underneath to prevent future damage .

I used a smear of JB weld water proof putty. Mashed it up, spread over crack, done. A little discoloration, but ok for us. Easy fix. Going on 3 or 4 years now.

Is the crack on the shower pan (where you stand), or on the wall (the shower surround)?

Either way, you should drill a small hole at the end of the crack (each end and any other splinter cracks that might have occurred. This will keep the crack from splintering farther.

To repair the best, you should remove, the pan and, like suggested above, apply a fiberglass resin filler (if on the shower pan ... floor) both sides, underneath and on the top. Once dried, sand down to make it smooth.

If on the wall, you need to do the same thing, drill a small hole at each end of the crack to keep it from spreading. Then fill with a resin epoxy, or tape.

If the crack is on the surround (wall), you really need to drill out the screw holes where it attaches to the walls so the surround has room to wiggle. More than likely, when installed, they drilled a small hole in the surround and then inserted a screw and attached to the wall. Bad, bad, bad way of doing it. There is no "give" in the surround. The slightest bit of stress or the slightest temperature changes causing the plastic-fiberglass to expand or shrink at a different rate than the wood behind it, will cause stress on the screw, causing stress on the surround, causing a break. So, make sure the holes drilled in the surround and the shower pan are larger than the screws so there is some wiggle room when the camper flexes or temperatures change.

The best way to repair it would be to remove the entire shower insert, add fiberglass resin and mat to reinforce it then fill in the gel coat with a repair kit. Like njtony said, cracks in fiberglass always seem to get worse if not repaired right.

Find a local supplier for acrylic whirlpool tubs. They always have a source to repair the tubs. I've had several repaired, even with large chips missing and cracks. They grind out the crack, and fill with a color matched acrylic, then buff. You can't tell it's been repaired.
