Splendide Ventless W/D Comments
This post is not to discuss the pros and cons of ventless W/D since we already know that the vented models are superior for drying. I do however just want to pass along an interesting observation.
Before we bought this coach a couple of years ago we had always had the vented models and they were OK but let's face it small 120 VAC electric dryer is never going to be great but are at least adequate. When we bought this coach it was our first experience with a ventless model and it was a disappointing experience at best....clothes would never dry well no matter how long it ran. The coach layout precludes changing to a vented model so we just made do.
As I started digging into alternatives I found out from Splendide tech support that the ventless models require a periodic service to clean the outside of the drum where the condensation takes place and they even sent me the procedures to do so but it required pulling the W/D and removing the top to access the drum...tough for me to do. We were ready to buy a new Dometic W/D (different condensing methodology) but decided to have the W/D service performed while we were in Bend for out annual service visit.
Amazing improvement!!!! DW now reports this old ventless is drying as well as our previous vented model. So, if you have a ventless model what isn't drying well it might be worthwhile to spend the 2 hours or so to clean the drum.
