Sunseeker 3010 DS, 32+ feet Class C

I've seen posts from a couple of satisfied owners of the Sunseeker 3010 Class C. I'm wondering what is the CCC rating? And how is the handling?

From what I've always read, 32 foot C's can end up with problems pretty easily in terms of carrying capacity and handling. Am I off base with that?

What is the 3100's Wheelbase? The WB determines how the Front and Rear Axles are loaded, and that in turn affects handling and tracking. Our "31" is about 32-ft overall and WB is 218" which loads both axles to the same (high) percentage of rating.
  • Haven't got a Sunseeker but do have a 32g Minnie with a 217" wheelbase and had my concerns after having read all I could find here. It turns out I'm very happy with the way it goes down the freeway. Very little push or pull from cars or trucks that I am passing or that are passing me. Seems to track very well in cross winds. Before buying this C I had been driving a chev cargo van (express). The two seem to drive the same, sometimes I forget I'm in the C until I pull into a parking lot somewhere.
If I remember correctly I have a 56% w/b to overall length ratio.
  • The 3010 appears to have a good layout for maintaining driving behavior. It has a nice long 220" wheelbase, and the layout looks like weight balance should be OK side to side. It is one of my favorite layouts. If I were going to buy a C, this would be at the top of my list.

Also, having the living entry door near the front means the co-pilot seat can actually recline!

Bryan saved me a little work, I was ready to look up the WB for the 3100. I'm starting to believe that:

    1. Floorplan, not driveability, determines Wheelbase
    2. There's a standard plan for the common Bedroom/Walkaround Queen/Wardrobe/Bath part of most RVs. Rear wheel well ends up under the shower on one side and an appliance on the other.
    3. Added length takes place forward of the axle, with things like dinette, lounge chair, pantry, etc. The Bedroom stays the same
    4. The "long" Class C's do OK with handling and weight balance because of what's been added forward of the axle, increasing the wheelbase
    5. The "midrange" ones have problems because the same Bedroom is aft of the axle but not enough wheelbase in front of it to offset the weight. Tail-Heavy!
  • Good analysis, thanks!
I did find the ccc is 1742 lbs, as optioned on the lot. That seems good enough for me.
  • My fully loaded weights are 13600 lbs gross, 4600 front, 9000 rear. The 3010 handles very well. I have no push at all, no exaggeration from Semis, for some reason a pickup truck will give me a very little bit. That's weird.

We've put 9000 miles on our 2012 3010 ds and I couldn't be happier with the handling. Had a full alignment at 3600 miles and I keep the rear air bags at 60 psi.

The air bags I think have helped improve the handling by keeping weight on the front axle.

Otherwise I've done no other mods.

There Ya Go. Long wheelbase puts a good load on the front tires. And keeps the rear axle from being overloaded.
