Supplemental Braking System

This is a meaningless response, but you're topic really got my attention. My old age and poor eye sight is playing tricks on me. I though your topic was "Supplemental BANKING system" and it really got my attention. My wife accuses me of having selective "old age" hearing, but now my eyes! I am getting old! I can't wait for the Alzheimers now ... then my mind will forget I even wrote this!

"Supplemental BANKING system"??? I'm slow, it took a while. OP may not get it yet! Probably is still :h his noggin. Are we talking about the kind for cornering a vehicle, or cornering our money in?

I see the word Braking. But I have my glasses on.
Other than that I can not be of any help. I have a BB.

The unit works by inertia so if the road was rough, or you hit a large bump, that could be the reason for the brakes to be applied.

Although mine is not a Blue OX, when I first got the toad I found that laying directly on the floor with the seat up against it, it would sometimes activate the brakes as it was leaning forward.

I now set it on a short piece of 2x6 board that raises it up and it contacts a better part of the seat. That keeps it level and eliminated the issue.

What do you have the sensitivity dial on?
It is adjustable.

Our Patriot Braking System hasn't broken two tow bars or ate up a set of toad brakes yet, while set on 2-3 (out of 5) sensitivity, like it's predecessor. That unit was rebuilt 7-8 times by the manufacturer in 7 years, several times at my expense (at least one way shipping $45-$50 depending UPS zone). I did send The Patriot back after the ram went out and wouldn't retract without unplugging the unit on set up. This was under warranty and all has been well for the last 5000 miles. We set our Patriot at "2" on the sensitivity setting without any problems. Why would you operate the braking unit without the breakaway switch installed? I suppose you were just setting it up on your toad. To me that is one of the prime features of any supplemental braking system.

I got tired of fighting electrical gremlins and the loss of my supplemental brakes in the middle of a long trip with a US Gear System.
I replaced it with THIS Works great and no electronics. Wish I had bought it to start with.

I wouldn't tow without a breakaway system. Saw a Toad in the trees off the northbound side of I-75 in Oct. MH was on the shoulder southbound. With the amount of traffic on 75, they were lucky that the vehicle crossed the N bound lanes and missed everything but the trees.

Never any problems with the Patroit in 3 years and 11,000 miles of use. My signature needs updated and I haven't figured it out yet.lol
