A cable and a lock are pretty cheap. All you have to do is make it a bit inconvenient for someone to lift it. I use one long cable and lock all of our bikes, the grill and anything else mildly tempting.

I thought it was pretty funny that someone would advocate one of these as a much cheaper preventative that the damage that one could sustain without one then blow off securing it by saying the odds are low that it would get stolen.

I have a Surge Guard 34750 50amp portable unit hanging around here gathering dust with no use what so ever for it - After a few repairs it's as good as new - So maybe $50 to $75 is what I can expect to get for it

They work OK but when they get water inside things go wrong quickly - it's really a simply fix to open up drain and dry out and then make sure all components are up to snuff

I was originally planning on getting the PI 50 amp surge guard, but then I found the TRC 50 amp surge guard sold by Camping World. I know it's not the same, but it was on craigslist for $95 and had never been used. The seller was an older gentleman who bought it for his DP and never got around to using it before they sold the MH. I couldn't pass up a $95 deal on an item that sells for $379. Plus it was better than what I had, which was nothing.

I got the plug in model. I plugged it to my cord and have all of it rolled up and stored in the storage compartment. I have an extension cord plugged into it and running out to the plug in. This gives some security. It was about $350 delivered. Kind of a cheap investment, I think.

You bought the Progressive from Camping World? I tried to, but they have their brand and that's all there is to tell.

Just got my Progressive Ind. 50amp model last fall just before winter storage. Still in box, but because of this and another forum I realized I was playing with fire not having one. Good tip about using it at home too, never thought about that. Bought mine from Camp World online late November on sale for $365 which is the lowest I have seen it. Under $300, multiple sites, I've never come across them, are you sure it's the PI EMS 50 or the more simple surge only protector?

So far the way I have things set up. When the power goes out, (aside from the lighting) everything shuts down.

Would be cool to have an auto start installed though. You're not in Arizona by any chance are you? ... :B
