If your license is valid for the vehicle, that applies to every state in the union (and in Canada, for that matter).

Learner's permits are not generally reciprocal, as I understand things, but full driver's licenses definitely are.

No, not crazy. If you aren't use to driving big vehicles you may white knuckle it some in certain situations. Be aware always of the back end of the vehicle and funky steep entryways to stores. Stable roads and hills are fine, so long as it doesn't "dip" (mostly on driveways/entrances). Have fun!

Keep in mind on this thread the folks that are giving you advice that have actually been to those areas. The one thing they have in common is their encouragement for your journey. Most of the private full service campgrounds are going to be in the cities surrounding the areas that you are going to. I really like 2gypsies suggestions. It sounds like he has been more recently than I have.

You are not crazy and sounds like a fantastic adventure. There are plenty of private campgrounds that are open year round. We took that trip during Christmas and New Years about 3 years ago. We had a fantastic time. That area is just made for RV's. If you can't find a campground, there are plenty of wide open spaces that you can run the generator and just park overnight to sleep. Keep your water tank full while traveling, as there may be some parks that may not have their water turned on due to the time of year. The campground at Arches is a primitive campground, but absolutely gorgeous. I don't know where these people get their information when they tell you that you need a commercial license for a private motorhome for personal use. This is utter nonsense. You just need a regular driver's license. Have fun and enjoy!

We actually ended up going with the 33' Class C (forester 2016 3171ds). It had more of what my wife (the ultimate decision maker) wanted for the trip. Well, we're going to off to the races next week...

Read the rental contract to make sure it is ok to take the RV off of paved roads. Especially if you plan on using BLM or Nat. Forest roads and campgrounds.

We are travelling with 4 adults, two teens and two dogs. We could probably get away with something smaller, but the sleeping situation is a challenge because the teens like to sleep and the adults like to get up early. The bunk beds will allow this. One thing that my wife and I are trying to figure out is which will be better for driving, a 33' Class C or a 35' Class A. I'm assuming, as the primary driver that I will prefer the Class A, because of the big windows, higher seating and backup camera. Any opinions on this would be great.
