- SeekeroflightExplorerwhat is this "must fit in bay" requirement ?
Looks like you are in HOUSTON. Perhaps no such city ordinance in HOUSTON?
This shop was in Mesquite so they didn't fall under the city ordinances of either Garland or Dallas.
Perhaps, somewhere in here we might start a list of RV friendly shops with addresses and phone numbers?
Okay, I'm done with this feed. Y'all have a good time and we'll see y'all on the road. - bshpilotExplorerwhat is this "must fit in bay" requirement ? i just had our coach inspected, i parked out back (local quick lube) and then never said a word...checked the lights / blow the horn and stick the sticker on the windscreen....hell they didn't even check my tint (which is illegal).
- alkillionExplorerGlad you found a shop. I've gotten mine inspected for the last 5 years at an oil change shop at Custer and Parker in Plano. No problems.
- SeekeroflightExplorerFOUND A SHOP. . .
. . . right around the corner. SOS Auto in Mesquite. They had to put the RV sideways to the door because the bays aren't big enough. But it worked just fine.
Anyone in Mesquite/Garland - this will give you a nearby shop without having to spend 1/2 a tank of gasoline getting to a shop on the other side of the metroplex and back.
Spent the better part of a day finding them but well worth the hunt. A few more tweeks, get some gear together and we're ready for the next adventure.
See y'all on the road. - BB_TXNomadThere are two fairly large RV dealers on I-30 just a little inside I-635, Holiday World and Explore USA RV. You might give them a call to see if they do inspections.
- i_CorkyExplorerWe bought our 1996 in March, in Willow Park, West of Ft. Worth. They took it to Weatherford to an RV shop/Park/Inspection place on the South Side of the Highway. They pulled it up to the door for the inspection! I live near Northpark Mall & keep the RV at our apartment complex. For repair, I like Danny's RV in Denton.
- campingman55Explorerany rv dealer will do it i use mc clains in lake dallas on i35
- whem2fishExplorera new on to my i lived in Arlington now alvarado i have never been a bay they roll the computer out to you
- SeekeroflightExplorerThanks for your response.
I was hoping that someone has/had a quick "go here" place that they use.
The State of Texas Inspection Locator is not RV specific. Most, if not all, of the inspection shops on that list do not have bays large enough or long enough to completely encompass a 28' Class A RV. In Garland and Dallas and most of the surrounding communities - city ordinances state that the vehicle must fit completely inside the shop or the shop could face fines.
I've made a short list from that State of Texas locator list to call in the morning. I only need TSI/ASM which throws out about 75% of the shops right away. A morning of phone calls (instead of actually getting the inspection done) will tell if any have bays large enough for my RV.
Finding a shop in the Dallas area that will even WORK on an RV is tough. Laminack - on Shiloh in Garland is dependable for some repair work. But they don't do State Inspections the last time I checked.
I didn't consider 18 wheel shops for RV inspections. I'll see if i can find any nearby. Last year someone told me that there is an 18 wheel shop nearby on I-30 but when I drove by it wasn't anywhere to be found on either side of the highway. I'll have to look harder for an 18 wheel shop to ask. - backhoemikeExplorerGarland truck and trailer, state of texas had a inspection locator also try shop that do 18 wheelers and you should be fine but there is alot of others...
