  • Are you using an actual cigarette lighter socket or a DC outlet that resembles a cigarette lighter? A lighter will typically have a larger fuse, say 20 amps, while a DC outlet may only have a 5 amp fuse. What size is the fuse you are blowing?

This is an actually cigarette lighter and the fuse is a 20 amp however there is also a fuse inside the brake buddy at the end of the male plug.
  • I plugged my brake buddy into a small portable jump start battery jobby. I wanted to have that along anyhow and it did not run down the toad battery.
    bumpy
  • I had the same problem, talked with Brake Buddy and was told that most of the cigarette lighters are very weak because the wire that most car manufacturers use is undersized. They suggested getting a 12 volt Battery Direct Kit that they sell for $ 20.00, it's a dedicated outlet that gets wired directly to your battery with an in-line fuse. I bought one and have not had a problem since.

    yup 2x
  • Could also be the outlet itself that it doesn't "like" the BB plug....I'd change the outlet itself or the 12 v direct thing.
