Tips for keeping mice out?

I've heard of a couple: moth balls (not too healthy for humans, though!), or the strongest scented fabric softener sheets. Right now I've got 4 electronic devices plugged in that emit a sound that the critters don't like and I think that is working. Plus moth balls in the basement compartments and the sheets scattered throughout inside the coach. I've seen products at RV stores, like "botanical rodent repellant".

Do any of you have some favorite products or recommendations?

Thanks, everyone. I'm still reading through the links from 2oldman.

My biggest concern re the mice is the transmission of Hanta virus. I'll be spending the next couple of days disinfecting our motorhome, we've had them inside the coach. :(. Mask, latex, gloves, lots of Lysol...

When we're at our U.S. residence, our motorhome will spend some time parked at a storage facility not plugged in, so the electronic devices won't be an option. They appear to be working here at home, down south it'll have to be something else.

Seal the holes and puts traps inside because you won't seal them all. Traps are really the only way to solve the problem.

I have tried all of the things people recommend but it seems that 4 Victor traps with peanut butter works the best. We don't leave any other food available in the coach.

I had at one time a horrible rodent problem! The rodents chewed up the wiring harness to my genset! I've tried everything suggested on RV.Net and was successful with three Peppermint Oil, Steel Wool and Pestchaser Pro. I quit using Peppermint Oil due to it was too much work constantly soaking the cotton balls in all the nooks and crannies in a RV. The Pestchaser Pro made by Victor is a electronic device 10 times larger then those small electronic devices that you plug into a wall outlet! It kind of resembles a small boom box! Lastly, I used #00 Course Steel Wool! I used cases of this stuff and packed it tightly behind every drawer and runway that I could get too in my RV. I can honestly tell you that I haven't had any rodents in my RV since, and it's been several years now! I went all out because I don't want anymore $1,000.00 repairs due to rodents. I finally got real aggressive with them! Good Luck
