Tracvision help please!

Hi again... you folks were so helpful on my prior question, I thought I would ask another.... Thank you! My new motorhome (new to me) came with a Tracvision S2 dish, but did not come with a receiver. Assuming the dish is set up for Directv, Can I use my home satellite receiver (not a KVH) or do I need to purchase a Tracvision receiver? I see that Tracvision makes and sells them (separately), but don't know if you need to use theirs to make the dish work... Obviously the dish is not working as set up now... Thanks!
  • You can use the receiver depending on receiver model. There might be a couple HD receivers that are not compatible or a DVR that might not be. Best bet is to look at the user manual at the KVH site.
  • I also have a Tracvision Dish. I use the same receiver as I use at home. It is a HD receiver but the Tracvision will not produce HD on your tv. I have found the main thing when using my receiver is change the settings from Slimline to 18 inch round. Also change the setting from SWM to Multiswitch. Doing this I can manually tune my dish to sat. 101 and receive Direct TV stations.
  • You can get another DirecTV dish and just leave it in the RV. The basic model with work. $6.00 extra per month for the receiver.
  • You can purchase the low speed DTV receivers at the following:
    2000networks.com.
some are new and some are used. You'll need the d10 model for the KVH, as that is the system I am running. It allows the auto setuo and auto tracking features to run properly without having to reset the setting on your dish. As stated, it will not be HD signal.

    Very good tech service.

    Good luck and regards,

  • Wbaird, I have a D12-100. Does that mean it will not work with my Tracvision S2 system? There is a second cable coming from the roof. It's greay and has a round several pin (female) plug on the end. Where do I plug that cable into? Does a D10 have a port to plug it into? Thanks for your help...
  • I also have Directv in my house, and a recently-purchased RV motorhome with a Tracvision S2 dome. I took one of my Directv receivers (a D12-100) from the house and tried to make it work with the tracvision. All I get on my TV is "no signal". What do I need to change? I confess ignorance on this subject. I thought I would at least see a menu from the receiver on the TV screen, but I get only "no signal." Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

Peaches& cream is correct on setting up the receiver I do the same thing with my home box. Make sure the satilite coax is hooked directly to the box and then let the satilite dish find the Direct TV satilite then program your receiver. i am assuming yours is a automatic roof mount Tracvision dish. It has always worked of me. Mine is an older dish so can't set it up for dual tv's. I watch all my recorded programs. it works well
  • Before buying one of those receivers check with Directv. They are asking owners of older equipment to switch to newer boxes and shortly will not provide programming for old boxes. I do not know if that d10-100 is one that is being recalled.
  • Thank you for that info. I can't figure out, tho, how to change those settings you suggest. My tv shows "no signal". I can't even see a menu for settings of the receiver box. I am stumped. Connections all seem good. There is obviously something I am missing. Gonna sleep on it.

    Thanks again!
  • I purchased a antique Phillips DSX5500 (Direct TV) receiver for $10.00 on eBay as it works perfectly with the S2 antenna. The DSX5500 also has a audible tone for manual aiming which is helpful.
