- ChooChooMan74ExplorerElectric grill and boondocking do not go together. Try another cooking method. It does loom like a nice lil grill.
- Can-AmDuoExplorerI have been looking at Traeger grills and thought they used wood pellets and NOT electric. Am I wrong???
Brenda - downtheroadExplorerI think they use pellets to cook, but require A/C to power the fan.
- PauljdavExplorerThey use an electric element to burn the wood pellets.
I use a Weber performer grill when I camp. No power needed and I make awesome ribs, chicken, etc with lots of grill space.
I have a Big Green Egg at home but that thing is way to heavy to take camping.

that was my feeling also. sort of an oxymoron.
bumpy - PogoilExplorerFound out more on the Traeger. Uses 500 watts of electric for 4 minutes to light the pellets. Then it uses 50 watts an hour.
I have had food from my friends and it is very good. I cook on a charcoal Weber at home but do not want the mess while camping.
I now use the Weber Baby Q but it just is not quite up to par cooking wise but is well built. I have had it for 6 years and we always BBQ when we camp.
Pogoil. - xctravelerExplorerYou are a lot fussier than I am. My Baby Q is wonderful for the work I do. Meat for me and lots of veggies for DW. It operates on any propane I feed it, from the little cans to a hose off my main propane tank. Love it.
- PogoilExplorerBiggest problem is the Baby Q seems to have hot spots and requires you to be close to the Q.
I enjoy playing horse shoes and stuff like that when I Q. Besides the food I had off my friends Traeger was impressive.
Pogoil. - horizon36ExplorerYour inverter will consume/draw about 55 amps to produce 500 watts out put. The 50 watt load will take about 5-6 amps. If you need 500 watts for 4 minutes that will consume approx, 6 amp hours plus the 50 watt load per hour will take another 6 amp hours. So, in order to cook for one hour you will consume approx 12 amp hours. So, it depends on your battery bank size and method to recharge them.
- MoondaddyExplorerI haven't grilled w/ my Trager's while boon docking so can't speak of power usage. I have a 20 that is the early version of what they just came out with and 30 that has the same foot print but can cook a turkey in it, can fit in bay area. If grilling for more than 3 or 4 people you will need the Lil Tex grill and it will hold 2 1/2 large slabs of ribs. It can be hauled w/ a receiver carrier. Wife says that we look like hill billies going down the road on Memorial Day, nope just red necks. Wait till I load my Big Tex grill on the back of MoHo!
