Traveling between Phoenix and St. George, UT

I am new to travel in the western part of of U.S.. My wife and I are spending the winter in the Phoenix area, and we love it. This spring we would like to meet our daughter and granddaughters in St. George, UT for a week. What is the best route to travel from Phoenix to St. George in a gas powered motorhome? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
  • Thanks for the responses. I will check all these ideas and come up with a route. By the way, we are currently staying in Gold Canyon.

    Easiest is:
I10 West to 303 then North to 60. At Wickenburg take 93 North to I40 then West to Kingman. Then follow 93 to Henderson, Las Vegas. Then take I15 North to St George. No big hills to climb and not much traffic.

I agree this is a good route but.... North of Mesquite on I-15 you will encounter about 15 miles of 6% grade as you climb up the Virgin River Gorge. The 4 lane road is good but it is quite a climb.

  • I like the AZ89 route for it's scenic beauty, assuming you are willing to take the time. Easy route with your rig....Dennis
  • It depends where you are in Phoenix. If you are close to I17, go 17 N to 40 W to 15 N.

If you are not in a hurry, we like the 89 route through Kanab. It's much longer, but it will allow you to do a little sightseeing and check out some beautiful areas.
