We are planning our first MH trip to Yellowstone in mid September. Does anyone have any advice or issues we should be aware of that time of the year? Would appreciate, also some favorite side trips.

Tolkien....In my opinion, Fishing Bridge is the best place to stay and the most centrally located. The park is designed basically in a big "Figure 8", with Fishing Bridge in the middle. With that said, Fishing Bridge is booked through September 21 when it closes, unless you already have reservations.

Coming from Oregon, your most likely place to stay will be Grizzly RV park at the west entrance. As noted, the road to Old Faithful from Grizzly is open, but you won't be able to go past Old Faithful and around to the lake or out the south entrance toward the Grand Tetons or Jackson. You can go around the "Figure 8" the other way (add 50 miles) and get to the south entrance.

What to see. As I said, the park is a large "Figure 8". There are things to see around both loops. If you plan to travel about 25% of the "Figure 8" each day, you'll have a good base for seeing everything in the park.

Ask around and you'll find some places where the animals come down in the evening to graze. On occasion, we would prepare our dinner, get our binoculars out and drive to one of the viewing points. Eat our dinner as the sun sets and watch the animals.

Have Fun! It's a great park.

What you can expect for weather in that area that time of year. Make sure you keep a sharp eye on the forecast.

September is a great time to go. Check the road construction and closures page so you don't have any surprises.

X2 Grand Teton.

You also might enjoy a side trip for a couple of nights to Cody, 50 miles from the east entrance. The town has a world-class, five-museum complex called the Buffalo Bill Center of the West that is great even for people who don't usually like museums. Your ticket is good for two days, which you need to allow in order to see it. There is also the Buffalo Bill Dam just outside the town with a visitor center. Trolley Tours of Cody are fun and inexpensive - you can book one to depart from the convenient Ponderosa Campground right in town. Lots more to do, (though some things are seasonal like the rodeo, and won't be operating.)

It is a beautiful time to go and fewer people. It can get chilly/cold at night and don't be surprised to have a little bit of snow depending on how late in September you get there.

Highly recommend staying in West Yellowstone, MT at Grizzly RV Park which is just outside the west entrance to the park. Depending on how much time you have for travel and what else you want to see, there are several ways to get there and a lot of beautiful country all around YS.

At the southern exit to YS is the entrance to Grand Teton NP and the Tetons are not to be missed while in that area.
