- Matt_ColieExplorer IITo say I loath, despise and detest the 12V mousehole would be kind. Those things are one of the worst things to even happen to vehicle electrics. Just for starters, there is NO Standard anything about them. I have been sold/given five "plugs" that don't. They either will not go in some, fallout of some or go in and yield no power at all. Then comes the fact that they are other intermittent.
Many owners have requested a "Cell Phone charging shelf". And I will quote either a three or four of same (as requested) but with the specific provision that this will have no guaranty of function or life. (And it still isn't cheap.) And when I tell them that I can not supply outlets to standard because there is none. There is SAE J563 that has been around a long time, but nobody seems to care.
Matt - dewey02Explorer III've got one of those on my portable fish finder.
I find that if I loosen the screw-type attachment (on the tip end) a few turns it tends to stay in better. As others have said, also pry out the prongs on the side of the unit. - klutchdustExplorer II

Most of mine work OK but sometimes I do have to pry the springy contacts on the sides outward a bit to ensure that they make good contact. Also, twisting the connector in the plus can help remove any build up that would interfere with the electrical contact. But it would be better to clean the receptacle once in a while, perhaps with some electrical contact cleaner. If any of your plugs double as a cigarette lighter, they do a number on the plugs making them less efficient for other uses.
Cigarette lighter, haven't heard that in a while, I don't know if that was included with the coach,I know there is no ash tray, gave it up years ago. Hey I did take some scotchbrite to the outside metal bands, the gps cable is hardwired with this type of connector on it already so Im stuck with it. i may take some SB to the inside of the outlet and clean it up a little.

- Vulcan_RiderExplorerCan't overlook the obvious.........
Those should have a fairly stiff spring on the center pin and need to be pushed in firmly (HARD) to compress the spring and maintain good contact.
I've had maybe a dozen different ones in cars, trucks and now an RV and have yet to have any problem with bad connections. Well except for one I broke and another that cracked and flew apart. IAMICHABOD wrote:

no jiggling just plug in the USB.
I have several similar to these. Mine are Belkin brand. They work fine in vehicle or in outlet in coach.
When I used the type in the original post, they were always troublesome.- ronfishermanModeratorI bought 3 of that type. Only one of them will work sometimes. Changed over to a multi-port USB adapter with a cord. Got it off Amazon.
