Water damage **** floor

I have water damage to my floor. 2005 Georgie Boy Pursuit.
So, I pull apart the sponge that used to be particle board. I saw repair on the web. But the floor is ONLY particle board (OSB). Under that is a plastic fabric. That is ALL. No insulation, nothing. The floor is screwed to angle underneath.
Question: I cannot see any way to keep the plastic fabric from getting shredded when I cut out the OSB. I guess I'll just glue/tape up the surrounding fabric, and put 6mm plastic sheet (visqueen?) under the new plywood and overlapping the fabric a few inches. I'm going to seal the ply with epoxy. Does that sound right? Is there another way?
  • I have replaced the floor in a couple travel trailers they both had insulation in the floor we replaced the insulation with new. Try and keep the moisture barrier in as good of shape as you can. I used Gorilla Tape to patch the holes from the old screws and the damage done removing the old OSB. I replaced the OSB for plywood on both trailers. I am not a RV PRO just a guy who fixes stuff. Biggest thing is to figure out where your leak is or you will just waist your time fixing the floor.
  • My feeling would be to seal the top of the plywood with the resin/hardener mix, but leave the underside bare so it can breathe (moisture can escape). Splash from the road isn't really the problem, it's water that sits on top of the wood long enough to really soak in. Anyway, the 'plastic fabric' or similar will keep splashes to a minimum.

As long as you're at it, maybe use marine grade plywood?
  • Since It's a Class A the floor is probably not insulated if it's over a basement, and the Darco on the bottom is simply a moisture barrier.

Use Tyvek, not visqueen. And use Hydro Guard on the floor surface.
  • The black woven plastic is available from RecPro.com. I'm in the middle of this same job on a toy hauler. Mine had fiberglass insulation between the plastic and the OSB. I too am replacing the OSB with plywood. I plan to seal the plywood and paint with deck paint. My damage was mostly in my front storage from a grey tank overflow. Long story.
