We altering mattress size

We would like our king size mattress cut down to a queen size. The king has little side room and we have a queen at home and really don't need a king on the road. Anyone have any ideas?
  • I believe you can cut down the size of the bed pretty easily. One would have to look and see if there is enough of an "overhang" to be able to just cut it off to queen size and trim finish off the edge or if it would take more effort. Doubt you can cut down the mattress and would have to purchase a new one.
  • If it is a foam mattress, you may have a removable mattress cover which you can take to someone who sews and take a foot off of the width. If it does not have a zipper, you can carefully cut open a seam, since it is going to resewn anyway. The foam itself can be easily cut with one of those electric carving knives.
  • Go buy a queen mattress that you like and replace the king. Easier, les hassles, might be cheaper in the long run. Unless it is an all foam mattress, there will be metal springs that need to be cut down plus the padding.

I would suggest you make measurements inside your Motorhome before purchasing anything or doing any modifications. There seems to different sizes associated with RV's that are called Queen and King size bed mattresses... Know what is available to buy first before making your bed modificatons...

Just saying so you don't come up with something you can't use like you planned on doing...
