windsheld wiper problems

I have a 2007 Newmar kountry star coach. My wipers have been traveling to far to the left side of the windshild and locking off. when pushing them back they will go to the park position. When back on the road they will work fine for a few minutes then set a new park position about 1/2 up, then after a minute or two go back to the normal park position, then after a few minutes stop working entirely stopping in the center of the windshild or over the left edge of the windsheld again. To this point I have replaced the motor, called Newmar 2 times with no solution. I have disconnected the motor from the wireing connector and noticed some corrosion at the pins. I have cleaned the pins with electric motor cleaner and taped them together. Has anybody had this problem? Not good driving in the rain without wipers. Thanks
  • Thanks for getting back to me. I am thinking now that just maybe it is the wiring connecter because the top end is not sealed and the moisture can get to the connections. I have now sealed both sides with electrical tape. Hope it works.
  • I replaced the switch after talking to the engineer that designed the switch and it did no good. I have no idea as to cost. I did not pay for it. I had been complaining to the manufacturer from the very first time I turned the wipers on. it was replaced, actually for the second time, in the spring of 2012. I really did not complain the last time when it was replaced. I just resigned myself to the fact that I was going to have to pay and told them to fix it and I would pay regardless of cost because I paid 100's of thousands of dollars and any fix they could do would be small by comparison. They did it as "good will", but there was many many documented failures over 4 years for which they had paid for warranty work that was totally unsuccessful .
  • Thanks for your post. How much did it cost to replace the entire system? Did you replace the switch before you replaced everything?
  • I have a 2007 KSDP. Had the same type of problems many times over and probably worse. Was worked on about 5 or 6 times at various service centers beginning after the first time I ever turned them on.The coach was purchased brand new. It was worked on by Newmar at the factory and at rally's three times. Never worked very long. Finally after owning the coach for nearly five years they replaced the entire wiper system. Not sure about the motor, but all the linkage the arms and the blades. I now have wipers that work. I do not hold out any hope you will ever have working wipers unless you get the entire "system replaced like I did.
  • This is one of the first things I checked, it was ok, however I did move the blade to a lower park position. Thanks
  • Mine had a tapered, serrated, shaft coming off of the motor and the arms were connected to that and held tight by a nut.....if that nut was not tight enough then it would just stop where ever it wanted to, run whenever it wanted, and also hesitate here and there....It wasn't easy but I got the blades in the right location and tightened the nut real good and they have worked right ever since.
  • Thanks for the Ideas. I did check the two bolts holding the arm shaft, they were ok.
  • Just FYI in case someone else runs into this . . . . blade would not wipe bottom portion of wipe area for about half of the stroke.

Maybe the blade rubber was hard but new blades had no effect for solution.

Maybe the spring holding the blade against the windscreen was weak but it looked fine.

SOLUTION was to put a slight bend in the long metal part of the arm. You don't even notice it, before or after "reforming" it. Wipes clean through the entire stroke now.

    Best,

  • You probably have a loose bolt or screw where the windshield wiper control arms connect behind the front panel of the RV (behind where the wiper shafts come through the front of the RV).

Should be an easy fix, but you may need the body of a 10 year old to get at the mechanisms.
  • I personally haven't had this problem but a guy that was parked next to me in Yuma last winter had an 08 Dutch Star and he said he had nothing but problems with his wipers. It sounds like the same sort of problem you are having. He had his in for warranty and they didn't seem to be able to fix it. Maybe the motor is too light, because I think he was blowing fuses.
