Xantrex Freedom comb. Inverter 81-2010-10 problems

My inverter is not putting out, I think the wattage is too low to charge the batteries after 3 day plug in at the site the display shows half charged. How do you check the inverter? I have a 2004 Xantrex 2000w hart interface 81-2010-12
  • Digital volt meter (start at under $10). Red lead to positive terminal of battery, black lead to negative terminal of battery.

If charger section is working, battery voltage will be 13+ VDC. Be sure you are checking the HOUSE battery bank, as on many coaches, the chassis batteries are not charged by the inverter/charger.
  • Inverter = make 120V AC from 12V DC

Charge = make 12V DC from 120V AC

Are you sure you have the charge mode enabled? The inverter does not charge the batteries, it creates AC current from batteries.
  • That is how my Xantrex began to fail a few months ago. Xantrex suggested I disconnect the batteries at the terminals and leave everything off for ~15-30 minutes. It worked (for a while) and I was able to manage a few more months of use before the problem occurred too regularly to continue.
  • My suggestion is to replace it with a different brand. I have the same converter and it has been replaced twice because of failure. Can't be repaired. The only reason I keep going back to it is my extended warranty insists on replacing any faulty items with exact same thing. I'd settle for an inverter of half the capacity and price just to get some reliability.
