Etiquette query......

Normally follow the Golden Rule (grade school) when camping
and 99% of the time I'm covered... this one has me flummoxed..

I own a perfect self contained electric smoker... (soaked chips
of Hickory/Apple/Mesquite etc.).... was wondering if it would be
inappropriate to take with me to the next State Park camp outing
and smoke up some tri-tip / shoulder / bird etc. . Would hate to
p.o. the neighbors.... I only ask as last week one of the neighbor
couples sat outside their rig and both smoked slow burn big ol'
fat cigar turds...and we were downrange. Dang things lasted over
an hour then lingered. I've smelled better feces. Hence ,
rethinking the smoker. any thoughts ?

Smoke time varies with load/species/cut ... could run up to 6-8
hours.

    Cigar smoke does bother me.

    Camping is all about camp fires and outdoor cooking, that smoke does not bother me.
    No different than a BBQ pit.

    I'll be right over for some... I would not hesitate... Might watch the wind direction and see if there is a way to minimize the smoke direction as to not draw too many people to my dinner...

    Smoke sets me off into coughing fits that are disgusting to witness. We love a campfire, but I don't get to enjoy them with DH very often. Every now and then, if there's an air going and I sit upwind, I can get away with it.

    If someone is smoking something, I just have to stay inside the RV with the windows closed. In a CG situation, I can't find fault with someone who wants to smoke their meal. I just do what I have to do so I can breathe. After all, that's part of what camping is all about. Outdoor cooking, etc. It's my problem and I don't expect the world to accomodate me.

    I have smoked meat and big fat super premium cigars while camping. I hope your down wind sometime from me.

    If it's causing a lot of smoke to go in someone elses direction then I would say no, it's not right and I personally wouldn't do it.

    Oh man! I remember pulling into a campground when we were heading to Arizona. It was close to dinner time. Oh my God, the aromas wafting in the air from the different campsites was glorious. If I recall we sat down to leftovers reheated in the micro. :( Cook your meal, enjoy it and be ready to hand out your recipe....

    I use an enclosed gas smoker at home and not enough smoke to bother anyone and when it does smoke it doesn't last long, usually more smoke at the beginning. Now the smell might make it around the cg and back. Go for it!

    Does the campground allow camp fires? If not then don't run the smoker but if they do it's nothing but another campfire.
