Almost got caught- phishing

I came *really close* to giving my email password to a phisher this morning- got an email titled "Steve Sharp shared a file "RV Order.pdf" with you on dropbox.
Then a "view file" icon.

Thinking this sounded legit, I clicked on the icon, bringing up a login box to dropbox- log in using gmail, yahoo, etc. Started to log in via gmail, when it hit me- dohh!!!

Looking at the domain- it was a completely non-related domain.

Now I go back and enter rather rude email addresses and passwords in the fields, which it happily takes. I'm afraid I use some bad words :)

Anyway- be alert!

    Best to just delete them without even looking.
    If it's legitimate (doubtful) they will find a way to reach you.

    My favorite Phish was one that claimed to be from Bank of America (Was not of course)

    We are having problems accessing your account for a security check, Please provide your log in info.

    Uh... I'll bet they were having problems accessing my account.. It had been closed for like 10 years at the time.

    I always follow this rule of thumb.. if I did not expect the file, especially ones with attachments, you run it through a virus detector to see is it clean.

    most are not.

    Not too long ago, we had a staff photographer receive a photo attachment in an email from/to him. This is not unusual as many of us send ourselves emails w/attachments on the fly. Though he knew he didn't send it to himself as a zip file.

    I examined the zip file, and it contained a Javascript file with a trojan downloader associated with Locky ransomware. Nice try, but no cigar.

    I think the key why the op chose to open it was it said RV. We all tend to think anything RV is safe! :B

    the scary part is that they named a file you WOULD open... How did they know that? You may already have a problem
