Bookmarks/Favorites

Thanks again to all responders. My bookmarks are now synced to our other computers. Really important that i NOT lose my bookmarks. Yay!! As they say i'm a happy camper.

Firefox also has another big advantage in that it stores bookmarks, passwords, config files, etc within its profile folder. This folder can be placed anywhere, and easily backed up. In fact, mine gets backed up automatically twice a day. Just a few clicks can restore it if ever needed which did occur not too long ago when I uninstalled an old version of Firefox, but didn't realize it was linked to the new version.

You can easily encrypt this folder to harden security locally which is another plus.

Firefox now has a backup/restore function for bookmarks. Click on Bookmarks, then Show All Bookmarks. At the top of the screen that opens is a selection for backup/restore. Backup to a file location you can easily find, copy that file off for safe keeping and then when you get your new PC, copy the file to the new PC and use Restore.

Mozbackup did not work on Win 8.1 when I tried it. This works. Since your bookmarks are extensive make regular backups this same way and keep them off the computer.

All browsers have a way to export your bookmarks as a backup. It would then be a simple matter of importing the file if you ever need to restore them.

I use MozBackup as not only do I want all my bookmarks, but also all the add on's, settings, everything. Mozbackup in regard to Thunderbird grabs addresses, emails, settings, add ons and all.

I'm guessing the answer is an external hard drive. I have tried that before but was unsuccessful in my attempt. If external hard drive is the best way to go could someone offer a few pointers as i don't have a clue. Thanks all for the help.

I am not techy and I bought the WD My Book external hard drive. Plug it in hit a key and all my stuff goes over to it. It was that easy. I call it my back up for dummies box!!.:B
