Convert Winegard Travler From DTV To Dish

I want to convert my Travler from DirecTv to Dishnet.Has anyone done it?
I called Winegard and they want $255 for the new LNB.:E Plus a new dish for $25. Is there a more cost effective way to do this since it seems like a complete dish with LNB goes for about $90.

Thanx
  • I would rather spend money and have a warranty. If you can do the work yourself it might not be worth it, but someone who needed a tech to do the change-over would have to invest the parts plus a couple of hours labor.
I see it this way, take of the DirecTV Trav'ler and install the Dish Trav'ler (the base rings are the same so no new wiring or caulk) install the new base ring on the old Trav'ler, swap the new controller for the old controller and box it all up. You now have a fully functional DirecTV Trav'ler to sell. Sell it for 1/2 price (around $700) and subtract that from what you paid for the Dish Trav'ler (around $1200) and for $500 you have a brand new antenna with a new 2 year warranty.

No internal components need to be replaced. You will need the RP-SK21 mount, arm, LNB, wiring and RP-SK11 the Dish Network dish (reflector).
This will give you a whole new mount for the dish and arm plus the Dish LNB.

Here are the instructions for making the change. Scan down to page 9.
This is your one and only choice other than removing and selling your current mount and installing a new SK-1000 (my personal recommendation).
Thanx for the info. Why would you recommend replacement?

I don't think you're considering the fact that the device's internal electronics have to be replaced along with the physical hardware.
    No they don't per Winegard.

  • I don't think you're considering the fact that the device's internal electronics have to be replaced along with the physical hardware. Remember, the system has to scan for a different set of satellites and that information has to be provided in its firmware.
