DC tv power plug?

I just bought a new Samsung television I want to convert to DC. Does anyone know what size the barrel plug is on this thing? It's not 2.1 mm, or at least a 2.1 mm jack is too small to fit the port. I think it is 2.5, but I want to be sure before ordering an adapter. Anyone know what size it might be?

Thanks.

Cut the end off whatever power brick it came with. Use a multimeter to determine polarity, and then wire it to your new 12v source.

2.1 and 2.5 are the common sizes, but to mess with consumers, they sometimes change the inside conductor post diameter as well.
This is essentially what I did. I cut the cord between the brick and the connector, and added my own male/female connector(s). Now I can run it from either the brick or directly from 12v.
  • The Samsung UN22F5000AF that I installed a couple of years ago uses the "T" tip. It has dimensions of: outside diameter of 6.5mm, inside diameter of 4.3mm and a 1.4mm pin. Your model may be different. I would have thought that the adaptor that you tried from Radio Shack would have listed the tip type/size.

  • If you got a barrel plug that fits from Radio Shack, the specific measurements are listed on the outside of the plastic bag it came in. Radio Shack lists barrel plug ends by letter, like "H". You can Google "what size is a Radio Shack "H" plug?" to get the measurements. You can find various wall-warts (transformers) at Amazon. You need to know the mA output of them, not just the voltage output. TV should list its input power requirements. 12V wall outlet should provide enough amperage to run it. And, contrary to what another poster stated, the center of a barrel connector is NOT always positive. The wall-wart that came with the set should have that listed on it, also.
  • center is always B+, the one from RS may not produce enough current.
  • There's nothing in the user manual. The wall socket is DC, I've been running another television there just fine. And I don't want to cut up the ac cord. I bought an adapter at Radio Shack that you can plug various size barrel plugs into, but it won't power on off AC. I thought it might not, it's 14 volt. Back to the drawing board I guess.
  • Not all wall warts are DC. There are some that are AC so make sure. There is no need to cut the plug off, you can make the measurement easily and there should be a diagram on the side of the wart which will tell you polarity plus if it is AC or DC
  • Cut the end off whatever power brick it came with. Use a multimeter to determine polarity, and then wire it to your new 12v source.
