Direct tv app

My other thread got off subject, so starting another. We have the Direct tv app on our new unlimited data iPad air2. When playing with the app, it seems that I can only get previous shown shows, not current "live" programming. Also no locals, which I can somewhat understand. Is it possible to get live tv with just the iPad and the app, anyone with experience doing this?
  • You cannot watch live TV with the Cellular Broadband connection.
You can watch live TV but only when connected to WiFi on your home network where your receiver is located.

  • Great link! Thanks. Not really what I wanted to hear but still will beat having to buy a new portable sat. Just have to watch a little older stuff. Still no additional cost.....so far. :)
  • Many networks, have there programming online day or two after the show airs

I know none that stream it at the same time as broadcast
There may be exceptions for some ESPN sports broadcasts

Your dish app for dish programming is one of the delayed after the fact

Pretty sure the topic is DirecTV, not Dish.

Generally the shows are released to the internet (And thus the apps) after the closing credits run on "Live" Broadcast. This applies to both Broadcast TV and Cable/Sat channels.

For NETWORK (not local) you can type the name of the network into the app store and they should all have apps.. I am unimpressed with the ones I have tried but it's been a while and they may have improved them.

For "Local" type the callsign of the station into the app store search.. Same comment.

I'm not impressed by Straming video for the most part.. I do download a couple of shows (one a week plus one a month) for later Chrome Casting, but I either give up quality or it takes hours to download a one hour show. Since these are technical shows where I need to be able to READ hand drawings, I go for quality.
