Directv Question

We currently have Directv in the house (one HD reciever and two regular) and when we travel we take the two regular receivers and I use an open faced dish for the RV. We have sold the house and are moving into the RV and I plan on ordering a Winegard Carryout GM-1518. We are not worried about using HD in the trailer but I am wondering if I need to keep the two regular receivers we have now which are about 6 years old or get more updated models. Any suggestions? Also would it be best to keep our service as it is now S&B or change to RV service? Thanks for any suggestions and help.
  • Yes, you have DirecTV D-10 receivers. They are fine SD receivers and you should have no issue with them working with your Carryout.
  • We are aware we will not be able to get HD with the carryout or the opened face dish we have now and we are okay with that. Once we move into the RV the two receivers will stay in the unit all the time. Can someone tell me what model receivers we have by the information below or can you tell me where to find it on the receivers? Thanks

    MFR Code - 300
    Model - D10-300
    MFR Date 5/22/2006
  • DirecTV does not offer a dual tuner satellite receiver. Any model number below H25 excluding C31 or C41 will work on a carry out. You will need to repeat satellite setup to a round 18" round antenna and with a multiswitch. If you have a H25 or above you will need to convert your standard antenna over to SWM technology. There are many advantages to converting over to SWM. 1 is if your moving a receiver from your house there really is no setup required. Keep in mind you will not be able to get HD programming from a carry out or portable dish unless you have a true HD antenna.
  • I would keep your standard box as the carryout will not work with the HD box. When I had directv installed last year I had a hard time getting a standard box from them that would work with my carryout they kept pushimg there swm system with HD-25 recievers.

Hunter11 - That is what i did for years with my home DIRECTV account. I brought along two Directv SAT RCVRS and a carry out SAT DISH that had two OUTPUTs. I ran a RG cable to the SAT RCVR in the living room TV and the second RG cable to the SAT RCVR in the bedroom TV.

Then I used the VIDEO OUTPUT connectors of the SAT RCVR to feed the VIDEO INPUT channel on each RV TV set. I did not use the Channel three - Channel 4 connections.

This allows me to use the TV REMOTE to select CABLE TV from the camp ground cable connections - OTA TV from the BATWING Antenna to pickup full blown High Def TV from the local towns - SAT TV from the VIDEO 1 input... Click click click...

After the NATIONAL BROADCAST TV system started using full digital TV signals from the local towns we eventually stopped bring out the DirecTv SAt TV items. Watching high def TV is much better on the eyes and most of what we watch is the NATIONAL BROADCAST TV (CBS-ABC-FOX-NBC) shows anyway. This is also FREE to the public...

If we want to watch some cable TV shows at the camp grounds we just switch to CABLE using the TV remote. When camping off the power grid we watch the NATIONAL BROADCAST TV channels using the OTA BATWING antenna. If we want to watch some cable channels here then we downstream them from the internet which requires a pretty big internet dataplan...

    Got all the bases covered.

  • Thanks for the replies. It appears that the Carryout does have two connections for two different receivers I would just have to add a second 50" cable to the one it comes with and the power cord which all connect to the dome.

I would keep the two you have now.. They will work with the carryout, Some of the more modern receivers will not.. Make sure you transfer service to an "RV" account so you can subscribe to Distant Network Service.

Also make sure the antenna you get is a "DUAL" (means it has two outputs and can run 2 or more (With switch) recievers, a SINGLE can not do this.

(Two LNG's (DISH-5000) is called a TWIN by the way).

If you want HD.. then you get new receivers and the proper open face antenna (SWM) and ... Well, that's about all there is to it.
  • I do not know if direct has the same type thing as dish but i have one recivr that operates two tvs
