- rhingstExplorerAS I have stated earlier I have made Google my default search engine in Firefox but the damn Bing still show up when you move the mouse to wake up the computer or if you want when you first get on the internet before loading the home page which is Yahoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- 1775ExplorerCould you possibly have this installed on your computer? -
https://www.bing.com/explore/desktop
This is the only software that would be called "Bing" - other than this Bing is not software but a search engine webpage that is used as default by MS IE Explorer and may show up as default on other browsers. But as explained so far - there are ways to make another search engine the default.
From what I have found, Bing Desktop came through at some point as part of an MS update to Win 7. According to Microsoft Bing Desktop should be listed on the Uninstall menu in the Control Panel and can be uninstalled like any other software. - TucsonJimExplorer IIThe Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
1.Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
2.Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
3.Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
4.Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied. - rhingstExplorerWe use Firefox and I have the latest version and did all you said but Bing shows up no where there. Bing does not show up if I go to Control Panel and then to Remove Programs. The damn thing just loads every time I wake up the computer. I give up, I'll just close the crappy Bing when it pops up.
- 1775ExplorerThe latest version of Firefox has put Search Settings in the Options Menu as its own category. Just go to Options, then click on Search on the menu. The top selection is for the default search engine that you want to use - click on the drop down menu and select Google (or whatever you want). Then go below and uncheck every other search engine. This section below is the "new" feature in Firefox to search all search engines and report results from all - all those checked will be searched. Just uncheck everything. The default will be as set on the top of that menu - such as Google.
As to home page - set your homepage on the same Options menu under General. Once you put it in, make sure it is set. This was straightforward on my Win 7 computer - on my Win 8.1 laptop I had to reset the home page several times on Firefox (and IE) to get it to stick - but now all works as I want it to - Google is the default search engine and my home page is what I want it to be. - DufusExplorerI also use Fire Fox and getting rid of bing completely has proven to be impossible for me. I have a new Toshiba computer and evidently they are in cahoots with Microsoft. Bing often comes up automatically even though I have selected Google as my home page. Usually all I have to do is turn on the WIFI and bing pops up. It's an irritation but nothing I have done makes it go away.
- wa8yxmExplorer IIIBING, is Microsoft.. So you know your odds.
If BING is your home page, then go to this url: about:blank
now as others have said Go to TOOLS (Drop down menu)
Internet options
and choose "Use current" as your home page.. by by bing home page.
NOTE: if you do not see the TOOLS drop down press CTRL-V then choose TOOL BARS and tick MENU
If you want some other page as your home page.. Say Yahoo or Google, Go to that page then follow the above (Skipping the about blank part).
Bing maps,,, Well, I can not help you there, - 2oldmanExplorer III will tell you to google it.
- coolmom42Explorer IIFor Firefox--click on the 3 bars in the top right corner. Click options (the sprocket looking icon). Select the SEARCH tab. Select the search engine you want to use as the default one, and then uncheck the search engines you DON'T want to use, including Bing.
I hate Bing. Especially the maps. - JayGeeExplorer

We use Firefox.
If you have the same level Firefox I run, in the top right corner there are three lines, click on those and select "options", then select "general", and you can select or enter your choice for a home page. Enter Google.com or rv.net or whatever you desire.
