Keeping DTV recordings

I can play my recorded programs on my dish DVR and can use RCA cords out from the TV to another DVR to record them. have to play and record so it takes 1 1/2- 2 hrs. to record a movie at night while I sleep. also can set timer so it does this automatically at night.

Thanks Bill. I just remember being able to record movies ,shows on a vcr as I watched it. Just needed to find a way to do this with the dvr. Thanks Larry

If you use a hard drive to move the recording from your current DVR you will not be able to plug that hard drive into the new DVR. Doing so will format the hard drive to the new DVR and you will lose everything previously recorded.

Thanks for the replies. I do not necessaraly need to download them but would like to copy to a hard drive or similar device as they play would be ok. I have a couple I dont want to loose. Thanks Larry

Probably, mine has RCA, co-ax and hdmi... with the software to support.

Record to a hard drive. Play back from the HD when you plug it into the new DVR.

that I know of there is no "decoder" available for most DVRs, so doing a digital copy to another device is, well.... You have to play the show to watch, or record.

I have a Hauppauge TV to USB converter (with software) that allows me to record show off the cable, or off the DVR and store it in a format I can then work with.
