The O/P has a lot invested in Windows. Time, Knowledge perhaps even windows only programs, applications and hardware.. If he switches to a different operating system... He has a new system to learn, He has new stuff to buy and some programs may not be available on the new platform.

Lets break this down. He will not have as much time invested in a new platform, because he wont have to deal with the fixing Microsofts problems. Knowledge? If he had the knowledge he wouldn't have to pay an IT guy to fix the problems that again were caused by microsoft. As for windows specific programs there are many programs equal to or better than those on the windows platform, and they are free. However if he really likes a specific windows program, most all will work under emulation. Next.
