Is Airplane Mode on? If so, turn it off.

If it is off, it could be an issue with your WiFi Adapter. Click on the Notifications Icon in the bottom right next to the time and choose All Settings. Then Select Network and Internet. Click on WiFi and make sure your WiFi adapter is listed. Someone above mentioned using FN keys to make sure your WiFi adapter is turned on. Not all laptops do that, but it is a good place to check as well. Some laptops also have a physical switch or button to turn the WiFi Adapter on and off. Check for one and make sure it is on.

It is totally possible that the internal WiFi adapter has gone bad or a Windows Update/Driver Update may have corrupted it, which is why you don't see the WiFi icon in the bottom right like you normally would. If it is a case of a bad Driver Update, you should be able to roll it back. Go to the Device Manager (click Cortana in the bottom left, next to the start button) and type in Device Manager. The look for Network Adapters. Your WiFi adapter should be listed there. If there is a problem with it, there will be a little Yield Symbol on the icon. If you don't see a WiFi Adapter there, it most likely has been turned off. You can also check for Unknown Devices. If you have one, it could be your WiFi adapter, but something may be wrong with it, which is would keep Windows from recognizing it and showing it in Network Adapters where it belongs.

A cheap and easy fix if all else fails, just buy a USB WiFi adapter. For as little as $10 on Amazon, you'll be back in business. Staples or Best Buy will have them as well, but probably will be more expensive.

Used to work for Uncle Sam and we used HP laptops. You may need to go into the BIOS and reset the WiFi connection. Turn off the laptop then power it back on and hold down the F10 key until it says entering BIOS. While in the BIOS also check for updates(you will need wired connection).

Sounds like you need a new laptop to me.

HP-tried the FN key and the wifi button. Nothing happened. Tried to do a restore but got error code. Googled it and found a you tube video. It didn't work. I have a repair disk and a complete set of recovery disks but wen I insert them they will not load up. I have used them once before and they worked then.

My wifi button showed a white light. It now has the orange light which indicates wifi turned off.

I typed a long explanation of other steps I have taken but when I hit the post button I got the dreaded server down and lost that message.

Leaving on a trip tomorrow and will be gone several weeks and some campgrounds will not have internet. When I do have it I will try to post what I have done.

My Dell has a tiny manual switch on the right side of the laptop, it's not on the desktop but on the side of the laptop. Older Dell's had it on the left side. It's real tiny and hard to see. It is a radio switch and will turn your wifi off, with a RED X over the internet connection signal.

What brand laptop do you have?

Most laptops have dual function function keys (F1-F12 at the top of the keyboard) Look at the keys and see if any of them have what looks like a radio tower. If so find the FN key (Usually at the bottom right) Press and hold FN and press the corresponding function key with the radio tower symbol. That should turn off airplane mode.

Windows 10. I have McAfee as a free virus protection from Spectrum. I did a deep scan that took hours. Reported no virus or malware. Ran CCCleaner also and cleaned everything up.

Windows machines can ask for a PIN instead of a password. Just a 4 Digit number like your Plastic money (But use a different pin)
