Problem with my Cradlepoint MBR900 Router

I was unable to get online yesterday. Checked Verizon Access and could not see my Cradlepoint on the list of available networks. All my neighbors were there so I figured the problem had to be with the router. I use my router for wireless printing so I usually skip the wire from router to computer and just use the wireless internet connection. To be sure I checked my wife's computer and she did not have the Cradlepoint showing either.

So I wired my computer to the router and everything worked as it should.

Logged onto Cradlepoint setup wizard and reset the router. Still no Cradlepoint showing up on Verizon Access Manager.

Is it possible my router has lost it's wireless capability? Any ideas as to what to try next? Or just go buy a new one?
  • There may be a wireless on/off switch on your router (most do) so you can check that. Also, if you just rebooted the router you can try doing a factory default reset. I assume you know that if something does go screwy, the router can reset the network name back to defaults anyway and that will show as something like MBR......
If all still fails you can download and install the latest firmware which could bring things back to life unless you truly have had an internal hardware failure.
  • Thanks Bill,
    Appreciate your thoughts.

I did check the i/o switch and it is on.

I did a factory reset (and it did show the ssid as mbr900---. Then ran the setup wizard to reestablish my security settings, password, etc. Still not showing as a wireless network.

Finally, the MBR900 is no longer officially supported and I do have the latest (last) firmware update.

Looking like it's a hardware failure.
  • I would try re-installing the firmware just for grins if you have not done so. If it won't take the current, install and older and re-install the new.
It's certainly possible that it's a hardware failure but it's always worth the effort to save having to replace it.
    Good luck.
I recently got rid of a WiFi Ranger that I had struggled with for years and bought the MBR95 so I could take advantage of the WiFi as WAN option when an RV park happened to have reasonable wifi service. It's been great and works just as it should with very little effort as I move from campground to campground.
  • Bill,
I installed an older firmware version - nothing changed.
Re-installed the most recent - still nothing.
Looks like I'll be shopping for the MBR95 soon.

  • Sorry to hear you could not resolve the issue. At least it sounds like it's old enough that you got a pretty good value for your dollar. I think I paid a bit over $100 for the MBR95 but there are also several other units that can give you campground wifi at a longer range (MBR1400 if I recall correctly) but so far I have been very happy with my 95.
