1st TT for winter... Starcraft, Northwood, or Outdoors RV?

I'm a newbie, so please go easy on me. I'm looking for something I can pull comfortably with my old Suburban 1500 (6500 lb. capacity) and I'll be living in and storing it in Trout Lake, WA which is at about 2000' altitude and gets lots of snow. So I need something with a strong roof and well insulated.

I'm looking at the following:

Starcraft Launch Ultra Lite 22BUD
Starcraft Comet Mini 18DS
Northwood Nash 17K
Northwood Arctic Fox Classic 22G
Outdoors RV Backcountry Black Rock 18DB

I'm hesitant to believe anything a salesperson tells me, and I've searched through reviews, but I don't have a feel yet for what would be better for me. I'm really looking for something that will survive winters well and last a long time, so quality is important to me. I'm willing to pay for quality.

If anyone can share their opinions about these companies/trailers, I'd surely appreciate it.

If there's something else I should be looking at, don't hold back. I'm really just starting my search.

Thanks,
Hunter

You think my poor, old Suburban could handle it? The towing capacity is 6500. I would be moving it a few times a year.

I saw those. But OMG they are crazy expensive. At those prices they should throw in dancing girls. They look like they're built more like a boat than a house. So I can appreciate that they're expensive. It's a whole 'nother world.

Just a Thought. Seems you may be off the grid? These have nice battery capacity (up to 450 AH) and a 320 w solar option along with a 30gal LP option.

  • The Northwood Arctic Fox Classic 22G is...

Dry Axle Weight (approx. Lbs.): 4128
Dry Hitch Weight (approx. Lbs.): 550
    Net Carrying Capacity: 2822
Gross Dry Weight – Lbs.: 4678
Gross Vehicle Weight (GVWR) – Lbs.: 7500

My towing capacity is 6500. I'm not sure what the GVWR is. Am I still okay?

For the Outdoors RV Backcountry Black Rock 18DB...
Full Feature Dry Weight - Lbs. 4100
    Net Carrying Capacity 1900
Dry Hitch Weight (approx. Lbs.) 440
Maximum Trailer Weight - Lbs. 6000

So that doesn't look quite so bad. But then again, I'm not sure what all that means.

    Thanks!
  • I've owned two Northwoods...
For winter camping at Trout lake expect to use a -lot- of propane
  • Forget the Starcraft for winter use.

Northwood and Outdoor are the same company.
But they are heavy, especially for a 1/2 ton SUV.

Check your Burb's payload capacity vs the trailer's hitch weight.
