dometic fridge

hello,
we have a keystone sprinter TT with our dometic fridge. noticed lately that the fin part of the fridge inside is iced over. Is this normal? have had it in operation 8 mos now. any food we put on that shelf next to the fins gets really cold and iced over a bit too.

was thinking of defrosting it, but just wondered if it is normal for this type of fridge to ice over that fast. this is our first TT. the thermostat for this TT is automatic so no switches there to check or move.

thank you.\

  • We fulltime and the humidity in the area your in and how often you open the door and how well you wrap or cover leftovers will affect how often you need to defrost. We've gone 6 mos when in Texas but every 4 mos is usual.
  • You may need to defrost OR

You can move the thermistor (small sensor attached to right fin with plastic clip) down.
Moving thermistor DOWN makes fridge section LESS COOL
Moving thermistor UP makes fridge section MORE COOL

Will make roughly 6-8*F change in temps overall.
  • Mine goes the whole season without any appreciable ice formation but it's pretty dry here.
  • I used to go to all the work of defrosting mine until I read somewhere how to do it with ease. I now just turn off the frig for a few hours, it defrosts and the food stays cold enough to not go bad, switch it back on and it is good to go.
  • I defrost mine about every 4 months. Usually use a hair (yes, I read the miriad of warnings). It defrost quickly so the freezer doesn't warm up and refer gets cold again quickly.
  • If it ices up too fast, it could be from the door gasket not sealing
well. A dollar bill closed in the door should have friction when
you pull it out all the way around the door seal. If not, bad gasket
    or twisted door.

The fin iced over after 8 months of continous operation and you wish to know if that is normal.

No... 8 months is a long time for the fins to take to ice over.. 4 is more normal.

Ok, enough of the joke.. Yes, if you don't open the door too often or are in a dry climate 8 months is normal.

Yes, they do ice up, this is not a "Frost Free" model. like many home Fridges.
  • My Norcold does the same thing. I don't have it on for too long, and it defrosts when I'm done camping and turn off the fridge.
