Navistar Maxforce7 Diesel

LOL, ya the 6.0 and the 6.4 were know to be great engines in Ford pickups.:B

While there are problems with all engines to a degree, there really is no problems with the Maxforce engines. This is almost the same engine as used on half a million super duty fords, they don't have EGR problems, they run fine. My present coach is now the third Maxforce engine I've owned in an RV and I never had one problems.

By the way, I just today drove a Tiffin Breeze 31BR with the 5.0 for almost an hour. When compared to my Maxforce engine 300 hp in my Nexus 32,(same length) the Maxforce has twice the power off the line from 0 to 25 mph. It also has twice the power of the 5.0 Cummins in acceleration and climbing hills. In fact I would compare the power of my Maxforce to almost that of the 6.7 L Cummins.

The one manufacture in '13 and up are giving the maintenance dept. a lot of head aches. In '13 I started with a new bus and the egr cooler started to drink coolant. As much as a gallon every 3 days. It was finaly changed after a years and a half. This school year it has been a royal pain, throwing codes all the time. 2 years ago Navistar switched to the Cummins 6.7L in that same buses. My district buys a new one every year and 99% of them lately have been Cummins equipped.

The problem was they decided to go with no DEF and instead go with full EGR. That was a dumb idea and it almost killed Corn Binder. When you put that much soot back into the intake you're going to have all sorts of problems. And these are the problems people are seeing with these engines. Even Cummins/Ram saw the error of their ways and finally went with DEF and SCR like everybody else in the modern diesel world. :)

Navistar just lost a lawsuit over those engines. 30 million bucks.

YW Sdtrock9. If you want to know more about these engines and their problems, go to on a school bus forum. They put a lot of these engines in school busses. They gave fleets fits. The cooolers would break and leak into the last cylinder and would hydro the cylinder and bend rods. This happened a lot.

Or you can Google Max Force engine problems and you can have reading for weeks and weeks.

Super funny video of a guy talking about a MaxxForce 13 Yes I know it's not the 7 but it's still funny and is pretty much the same with the 7 for different reasons. This dude is great!

Stay away from any Max Force engine that does not use the def additive for emissions. Max Force engines using the def emission additive are OK. MY neighbor/friend is in heavy truck sales and has horror stories how those engines bankrupted not only individual owner operators but some regional fleets as well. ON the resale, those trucks have almost no value as there is no market for them in the US. Some smart business people are buying those trucks used for very little, stripping the emission system from them, and shipping them to Russia and South America.

So, to answer your question, that engine is a liability. Do not buy anything with it.
