What size waste tank to buy?

Weโ€™re going to buy a Camco waste tank, theyโ€™re available in 15, 21, 28 and 36 gallons. Our fresh water is 40 gallon and black and gray tanks are each 32 gallons. There are 2 of us, retired. Any advice on what size waste tank to go with? Thank you in advance

Since we only use our tote tank for gray water and there's only two of us, we went with the 15 gallon tank. Any bigger gets harder to deal with it.
We're able to go at least 2 weeks without dumping our black tank.

A pint's a pound, the world around. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Not quite accurate since a gallon of water weighs a little more than 8 pounds.

Unless they have worked in utility operations, everybody seems to underestimate the weight of water (any color).

That way you won't ever overflow the tote .

This^^
How will you put 32 gallons of water in a 21 gallon tank?
How will you know when to stop filling before the 21 gallon tote overflows with 32 gallons of water?
Can you say?, "Oops there is a grey water mess"!
Avoid the hassle of overflowing your tote and get a tote big enough to take the full capacity of your grey tank.

I have a 30gal black tank. I wanted a 30 gal tote, but could only find a 21 gal. tote. Believe me, when full, 21 gal x 8# per gal was enough that I could not pick it up to dump at the dump station. I learned real quick to make 2 trips. Approx 168# was too much for me.

Most states prohibit dumping grey on the ground. It ainโ€™t just soapy water. There are nasty things from showers, food from washing dishes, and who knows what else. If you see someone doing that, do the rest of us a good turn and report them. Donโ€™t want my grand kid walking through a dump site.

OP, do what you want, its your money. But look at it this way, putting 20 gallons in a 21 or 36 gallon tote weighs about the same. But if you have 22 gallons to dump.......

We bought the 36 gallon unit. VERY heavy when full, but it came with a bracket to drop on a ball hitch, so you only have to lift it about 18" to set it on a ball.
Of course, you don't HAVE to fill it either, so the extra capacity is nice if ever needed.
We have a 53 gallon back tank so it is possible to have more coming out of the tank than the tote can hold. I dread if that should ever happen.

53 gallons is a big tank. We never fill the black tank up, but just the grey tank, Iโ€™ve heard some ppl will just let the grey tank run out on the ground bc itโ€™s just soapy water. I think this 21 gallon should work for us,

It's discusting to be near a site where someone dumped grey water on the ground. Often it stinks worse than black. IMHO anyone who does that should have there camper taken away and go back to using hotels.

do you really need one? Our trailer has a 32 gallon black, and two 32 gallon grey tanks.

DW and I can camp for two weeks without needing to dump. do need to fill the fresh water but not dump.

Even with our daughter, SIL and 2 teenagers we can go 5 days or more without needing to dump.

even a 15 gallon waste tank is going to weight over 120lbs full. 36 gallon pushing 300lbs. Waste tank is going to weight around 8+lbs/gallon

How often do you want to dump? The bigger, the heavier.
