2013 Ford Edge Flat towing

We towed our 2008 Edge for 3 years and our 2011 Flex for 2 years so far and have not had any problems with either. We have 65,000 miles on the MH and most were spent towing one of these 2 cars.

I wouldn't think twice before towing another Ford

Before starting out, you have to run your engine in gear with emergency brake on - both reverse and drive for at least 3 minutes each before towing. The trans has to be well lubed before towing. Read the manual.

We put 80,000+ miles on our 10 Edge. We towed it at least 15,000 miles not on the odometer.
No problem except left the key in the accessory position, twice, instead of all the way back.
When I first heard of potential problems I watched the Edge like a hawk. The Dealer serviced it regularily and checked the trans for me, at my request several times.
We started and ran it more frequently than recommended by Ford.
We did have to replace the right rear axle bearing twice. last one out of warranty even though we complained while it was still under the 1 year warranty for original replacement. I have bad hearing and I heard it but they have to hear it.
We always carry a portable inflater/battery jump start outfit. It stays plugged in the cargo area to make sure it is always charged up just in case and a 20 ft jumper cable set.
We haven't towed the 13 yet. Just follow the manual, instead of me getting it wrong. Be sure to turn off the headlights just in case you are towing after dark. done that too many times with the Saturn.
We have a RoadMaster outfit and it has a charge wire or hot wire to the car for tail lights/ brake lights. We have a air brake outfit from them too with a air cylinder attached to a bracket under the seat. Had CW install and purchased from them since anything ever goes wrong there are a lot of CWs out there.

I tow a 2010 Ford Edge FWD Limited with no problems. As stated earlier, key in accessory (i had a dummy key made by Ford for $7 that wont go past this point), put in neutral, and use the real key to lock the door. No prob so far. Only restriction is recommended not to exceed 65mph. At each gas stop I start it and run through the gears. Recently, had reg scheduled 30k service and trans service with no problems reported. The Ford Edge uses a 6 speed transmission, as I have been told, co-developed with GM, and this trans is also used in many of the GM flat-towable vehicles. The transmission in the Escape and Mariner are totally different, and many have experienced problems with those. AFAIK, no changes have been made to alter the trouble-free flat-towing that Edge owners have enjoyed.

In fact, I have never seen a post about Ford Edge transmission problems related to flat towing.

We had a merc. mariner and burned up two trannys also. Second one the dealer found a check valve was not installed. We went ahead and traded for a 2011 edge because the owner of dealership told me he towed one over 20000 miles with no trouble. Like you I hope I have no more problems

I haven't heard of any changes in the transmission of the Edge, and lot of folks are towing them. The only thing I've run across is the full on digital dash has confused a few because they can't turn it off when towing.

Our 08 AWD is pretty simple, turn the key to accessory (to unlock the steering), put it in neutral and go. The book does advise starting and shifting it through the gears before we tow.

You have my interest peaked, .... I sure don't want anything close to what your going through. Thankfully they have replaced your transmission, but being without something like your vehicle for extended shop works sucks big time!
