6 second garage door break in

So what? Get in the garage, wait, then go into the house and set off my alarm. You really want my TV, laptop, phone or silver? Take it. Insured and replaceable. Unless they deactivate my alarm system first, by the time they find anything of value that alarm is going to be screaming and you'll most likely find yourself staring down the barrel of someone's duty weapon. If we don't answer, the police are summoned automatically. If no one's home, I don't care what you take. If I'm home-well, we won't go there!

BTW we have a window break and motion detector in the garage. Again, unless the whole system is completely deactivated prior to entry he isn't getting very far. Once the garage door is open the motion detector will trigger the alarm. You can't stop pros no matter what you do.

How about a motion sensor that activates flashing blue lights positioned around a corner or a location further away from the sensor to make the perp think police are near? That coupled with one of those motion tracking spotlights I think would scare most dirtbags away. We will be travelling to a friends house soon and will be leaving the tt at their house unattended for a week while we all go on a cruise. I think I may leave a motion sensor by the door to activate a light inside the tt to make it look like the tt is occupied(all window shades down). Will leave radio or tv on too.

I've seen the videos. In every one the garage door has a window in it to help the burglar see where the wire is going. It would be nearly impossible without that window.

The bad guys close and latch the garage door, then hide in the house.

The police arrive and find all doors and windows locked and undamaged. Another false alarm. If they go inside (unlikely) they'll find nothing disturbed. They leave.

The robbers then have hours to rob the place.

A friend of mine who usually spends his life doing sales pitches around the country, and who has been hit more than once, decided to go with with security in layers.

After the alarm, CCTV, and monitoring system, he installed roll-down shutters on the outside windows and doors to minimize window break-ins. The door to the garage has not just a lock, but can be barred from the inside and also has a roll-down shutter in front of the door. This is used on vacations so when he leaves, if burglars get access to the garage, it won't help them get inside, as if they manage to pry off the rolling door, there still is a metal door that has to be kicked down. The garage door has a battery-backed up electromagnetic lock installed on it, and when he is not on vacation, he presses two buttons to get inside. One turns on power to the garage door opener and deactivates the lock, the other is the normal garage door remote. This way, someone who manages to snag the manual release rope still will be unable to open the garage door due to the lock on the inside.

This is, of course, a bit extreme, but because he is out of town for most of the year, his place is not occupied for a while. Even his A/C unit has been smashed apart for the compressor's copper windings more than once, so built a steel cage for the outside unit, then built a brick/stone fence with a heavy gate around that, with a camera recording that area.

The harder you make it to break in... The more damage they do breaking in.

However there is such a thing as a burglar alarm.. Here are two of my favorites.

One. the P-K9 System
Burglar breaks in and is loading the family silver in his pillow case, hears a voice "Jesus is watching you".. Freezes, then slowly looks about and seeing nothing gets back to work, again he hears "Jesus is watching you",, on the 3rd time he determines it is the family parrot who is talking.

So what, you are just a parrot what can you do?

"Oh I'm not Jesus, I'm Moses and Jesus is watching you"

Moses, what kind of idiot names his parrot Moses?

"The same kind that names his Rototiller Jesus, and Jesus is watching you".

(Now that is one ALARMED burgler)

The next one is easier, requires less clean up, and no large bags of dog food.

The Remington CD system

Sensors are tripped by the break in start a high quality sound system up and also start a CD playing, about 30-60 seconds of digital silence followed by the sound of a Remington Pump Action Shotgun being racked. That's all, no gun, just the sound effect.

smashing a window takes 5 seconds. what exactly are we gaining here?

FWIW: When I go on long trips I just put a bolt in one of the holes in the tracks and the door will not be moved....Just dont try to use the garage door opener while it is pinned. I did that and have to get a new upper door section. :E

My garage door is 13' high and I removed the emergency release rope from the handle. Plus it's lit outside and faces one of the busiest streets in the city. Also I have a really nosy neighbor that's always watching our place to see what we're up to. And beyond that I block the rollers channel path with large blocks of wood so the door won't roll up more than a few inches. These are measures I take if we're gone on long trips. :B Oh I forgot about my buddies who are still working the street who regularly patrol the property while I'm gone. No windows to break into but I guess anyone could saw a hole through a wall.
