It sounds like you have weak batteries. The sound of the repetitive "clicking" is probably a relay opening and closing. If you're plugged into shore power and have a working converter, the converter is supplying charge voltage to the batteries and hence, supplying power for the slide mechanism.

I have on a few occasions nosed my truck up to the battery bank and hooked up my jumper cables to make the slide work better...
You need a good battery charge or connection to make them work well even when being run from the shore power.
