Camping World Service Work Question

I have a Camping World about 3 miles from my house. The next CW is about 50 miles. But the one 50 miles away carries Fuzions which is something I'm strongly interested in.

We all know how sketchy it is sometimes when you buy a camper at one dealership and then need warranty work done at another dealership you didn't buy from. But has anyone had experience getting warranty work done at one CW dealership when you bought from a different CW? Yes, I can go ask but in all reality, CW RV sales will most likely tell me "yes" to just about anything to make a sell.

There was no fee charged in my case. In fact, once they got the cyclone on their lot, it generated so much interest they started stocking them!

I would first try to get the local dealership to bring in the rig you want from the CW that has it. We did just that with our Cyclone. Failing that, it should be no problem getting service at ANY CW, but understand that every dealership is different. Some have better service quality and attitudes than others do. It's best to ask around!

I thought about doing this. As long as they don't charge some silly ridiculously high fee to do so.

Its been close to a month since their unit was taken to CW for this work. They determined that the inverter was indeed bad, so they "filed paperwork". As of the last I heard, CW received approval from the manufacturer for the warranty repair and was waiting on parts. .

This is pathetic. I had a converter fail, about 1700 miles from home. It was under warranty. I stopped at dealer, with the inverter in hand, and they confirmed that the fuses were good, and it had no output. Five minutes later I walked out the door with a new one. It took another five to reinstall it.

Taking months to replace a bad converter is the equal to taking a new car back to the dealer with a defective battery, only to be told that it will take a month or two to get you back on the road. If the converter is easily accessible, they literally take less than ten minutes to test, diagnose, and replace.

Dealerships usually come with a general area that the manufacturer won't give another dealer access to.

That's my thought as well- we have a local chain of David Maus dealerships, but I don't think I could buy a VW at the Maus in Orlando and have it serviced at the Maus Kia dealer here.

(Actually, I think he has sold them, but you get the idea).

I worked at a GMC dealership in the service dept as a Service writer . So I had to do what the service manager (owner's son)and owner said or I would be looking for another job.
So since there were four GMC dealers within a 75 mile radius. This certain GMC dealership was/is well known and more than a few times people came to shop for a truck then go to one of the other dealers and buy from them.
When one of them came in I had strict orders to tell them we were booked out and soonest we could get them in was 3-4 weeks.

Had one local guy buy 4 vehicles from the place through about a 12 year period , came in got his price on a new one , drove the 30 miles to the next dealer and bought from them for $200 less than what he thought he could have bought it from us.Coarse it didn't have all the options as the one he was trying to deal on so in reality he paid more.
He drove in the new truck and went up front to tell/ rub it in the sales manager what a deal he lost.
I had dealings with him in the past with his other vehicles.
You know the type drop everything and fix my vehicle now I know the owner blah blah blah.
About a month later he comes into to service dept with a laundry list of nick pick and some well deserved needed warranty problems.
I said we were full for 3-4 weeks out like I was instructed to say for any warranty work.
The guy storms off and called the 800# and complained to them about us. Our district rep called and asked me about it and I told him about past dealings with him in the Service Dept and what I was instructed to do when someone came in with a local (not ours) dealer frame or dealer license advertisement Not yet received state license plate.

So the dist rep talked with the owner of the dealership and well from then on nothing changed we still turned away when bought elsewhere within our area.

Yeah I thought it was chicken poop (being PC) cause it was work for the service dept.

So yeah I've been on both sides and it sucks to be on either side...
This happened 26 years ago , and I haven't been back there in about 8 years, big turn over of salseman service dept and owner past away and now owner's son is running the place...

As for CW Service Dept dealings well both my posts got closed,, I was spanked by the moderators 😉

I have never had a problem getting work done at CW, the staff is usually friendly, knowledgeable and eager to work with me on any item, being repair, parts or accessories.

Did you buy from another CW or from a different dealership together?

I bought my Fleetwood in Ohio from Holman RV.
CW St Augustine gladly performed warranty on it. In fact they were the most pleasant to work with than anyone else.

I don't think it makes a difference where you bought it from. CW is a network. It's like buying something at Wal-Mart in your hometown, but returning at a store 1000 miles away.

But...

My knowledge regarding CW service isn't very impressive. We bought our 5'er from a local CW. It was used, and had no warranty. The lack of warranty wasn't a deterrent for us. We received good customer service at the point of the sale, but certainly weren't expecting much else. On the other hand, we have family that bought a BRAND NEW travel trailer from the same store earlier this year. After only a few short months, the radio quit working correctly. That's not worth a 30 mile trip to CW to them. But when the power inverter failed, well, that was worth the trip for a warranty repair.

Its been close to a month since their unit was taken to CW for this work. They determined that the inverter was indeed bad, so they "filed paperwork". As of the last I heard, CW received approval from the manufacturer for the warranty repair and was waiting on parts. The radio is in the same boat, but apparently parts are back-ordered. No timeframe on when the repairs will be complete.

Now, that if there's one bit of truth in the whole story from CW about the repair process for their TT, I'd be shocked. Whether they're being completely truthful or just giving the run-around, its terrible customer service. An inverter can be replaced in a couple of hours, and radios like this are a dime a dozen. Replace the inverter now and file the paperwork later. Meanwhile, the payments and insurance on the TT haven't been halted...

Just something to consider before purchasing from CW.

CW's are company owned stores are they not? It would not make any difference if that is the case what store you bought it from.
