- GordonThreeExplorerWhere's the 10, 15, 20 year data on these Harbor Freight and Champion generators?
Honda and Yamaha have been doing this a long time, must be something behind what they've been doing. - ScottGNomadFor those that use a gen a few hours a year, the HF is OK but the Honda has better surge capacity and that comes in handy for starting big items like a big resi fridge.
It all comes down to your needs and quality requirements. - Isaac-1ExplorerIf I read that right the entire test sequence was a 1 hour test run, repeated 3 times, to a total of 3 run time hours. Come back to me after 3,000 hours, and see how they are doing. Their is a guy that is on another forum that lives off grid in a remote part of Alaska, he claims to have a neighbor with a pair of Honda EU2000 that are at over 10,000 run time hours.
- BB_TXNomadFor half the price of the Honda and promising reviews, they are certainly worth a look.
- HammerboyExplorerFor occasional use why spend 4x the money for a Honda? I buy quality name brand tools that I use every day and I also have a few cheap tools that I had forever that are used once in awile. Both can do the job.
Dan - Ski_Pro_3ExplorerWhere's the noise spec? Most who buy the Honda inverter generator are wanting the quietest they can get.
- ScottGNomadIf you read the story, the Price of the Honda is 2X, not 4 times the HF and the noise levels specs were said to be about the same.
Isaac, your right. A three hour test is pretty much meaningless. - PadlinExplorerI use my Honda at home more then camping, when I need it, I need it to start. Like the power is out and the fridge is warming up. It's not like a lawn mower where I can wait a day or 2 to get it fixed.
I've got about 10 years on the Honda, it's started every time. I paid the $$$ for the perceived quality of a Honda. So far it's proved to be worth the extra.
The HF may well work out too, but you won't know till it either starts or doesn't. A 90 day warranty doesn't fill me with confidence. - Ralph_CramdenExplorer II

And if the HF doesn't and is beyond the warranty, you most likely chuck it in the trash and go spend another $500. - lucy6194ExplorerWe have two honda a 2000's and a harbor freight 3000. Love the push button start of hf. Hf is as quiet as the Hondas just heavier.
