Cheap bath faucets "stripped out"

A few years back, the bathromm sink faucet threads (that turn the thing off and on) stripped...and I could not turn the water off. In that case, I replaced the whole 9 yards.

Today, the shower did the same thing- it's still working, but feels weird. I think I opened it a but past "full open" and you can feel the plastic kind of bend, and flip loose.

I'm conflicted at this point:

Is that an easy repair?

Should I just go get a whole new faucet assembly?- it's a pretty easy swap out and the deal is 15 years old.

Is there any way to get something with a little bit of quality that fits in an RV shower spot? (I replaced both the bathroom and sink faucets with "regular non-RV ones"....same dimensions, etc and they have performed WONDERFUL).

No big deal here- but know that there's a few of you who have faced this before- and just after thoughts and experiences.

Thanks.
  • Thanks biscuit....you actually addressed my question

Have found a fancy LOOKING One at an rv store... Will see if it outlasts the rv ;)
  • I had to replace our shower faucet assembly.

Typical RV shower style.......hot/cold knobs with shower hose connection on faucet.

Had to go back with same cheapo. crappy RV plastic junk.
  • There is nothing in your post to say what type of shower control you are replacing and if it is an inside or outside wall or what the center to center measurement is.

Mine for instance is a cheapy thing mounted on the adjacent cabinet and is also used for filling the tub. A picture or good description would be nice, in lieu of that, there are four listed in the current catalogs for shower only, two Phoenix and two Catalina, all four have 4" centers, they run from $20 to $50. If you have a Phoenix fixture, there are repair parts listed. There are six more that are tub/shower fixtures.

I would guess that you could find fixtures at any of the big box stores for anything with wider center to center measurements but I don't know about the 4' center to center fixtures.
  • I'd suggest to replace it. It will be easy if you have good access to the back of the stall. I only buy Delta and American Standard plumbing fixtures, YMMV.
