Coach-net vs. Good Sam roadside

It's getting close to renewal time for my Coach-net policy and I'm wondering if I should switch to Good Sam.

I have seen several older posts that helped steer me to Coach-net...just wondering what the current feelings were regarding both brands of roadside assistance policies.

Thanks, Larry

What about AAA I have used them for 28 years. Never had a reason to tow my RV'S but twice my tow vehicle broke while towing my 25' 6700# boat, AAA sent two rigs one towed the truck to a garage for repairs and the other towed the boat home and backed in a tight spot on my side yard. We recently joined Good Sam but not the roadside ass. because we had AAA now I'm wondering do any of you use AAA.

How much junk mail do you get from Coach-net?
Do they send you fake renewal notices to get you to pay twice for renewal?
Do they make you join their club and pay yearly subscription for it just to access their website?
Because that is what Good Sam will do if you switch.

If you switch to Good Sam......expect your mail box to overflow with junk mail and fraudulent fake renewal notices and every other low life tactic via the mail. And sell your info which increases the junk mail you will get from others.AND you will not be able to stop any of it.

They also will not let you see the contract until AFTER you pay for it. Some one still needs to take THAT practice up with the BBB.

I've adjusted my mail preferences with GS and now only get the occasional mailing. if you've done the same and are still getting tons of mail then a phone call to GS is in order. but I don't understand what a fake renewal notice is...is that coming from someplace other than GS?? or are you referring to an early renewal notice?

They send a renewal notice marked 'urgent your membership is expiring'! And show a date within receipt of notice. When in reality sometimes the member's membership doesn't expire for months or even another year.

I was full-timing and went back up north to pick up my mail. Saw the notice and thought oh shoot I need to get this renewed asap before I hit the road again. Got back to the MH and pulled out my card only to find out it was NOT even close to expiring.

It is NOT a reminder notice. It is a notice saying your membership is "expiring" with a fraudulent date on it.

Had I at that point just stuck a check in the envelope provided I would have given them more money for a membership that was NO where's near expiration.

Then try getting that money back, you won't ever see it. They must make millions of extra money on this little mail fraud scam. ๐Ÿ˜ž

That and they will send you a personal notice 'in your name' of the discounted rate for renewal.......just try and get it, you will NOT.

When you go to renew with the special code for the discount that was mailed to you 'in your name', they tell you it is only available to new members.

Yup, that is how they show their appreciation for your business, mail fraud. :R

Thanks for all the replys.

I think I'll just stay with Coach-net for now.

If you have Coach Net now, and are happy with them, I'd recommend that you renew with them. Their renewal rates are much better than any quoted for a new member!

I switched to CN two years ago just because I got it cheaper. I think it was $244 for three years and renewal is the same price. I'm still getting GS junk in the mail. I have yet to get any CN junk.

I haven't thought about this. You are correct no junk mail from Coach-net. I get a LOT from Good Sam.

Had to use Coach-Net one time. It was in the afternoon and Easter Day. They were very good. While waiting for the truck I thought I would give Ford Roadside Assistance a call. Got the exact same person.

I had GS RS, emphasis on "HAD".

Then I got stuck on the side of the interstate in WV in a snowstorm with no heat for 4 hours while they tried to negotiate a 'better deal' with tow operators who already had more calls than they could handle from folks willing to pay full pop for service.

Eventually the tow companies got enough customers dealt with they were willing to tow me for the much reduced rate GS was willing to pay.

I found out later though the exhausted tow truck driver was either too tired, or lazy, to disconnect my driveshaft before he towed my unit, at highway speed, into the nearest town.

So then my failed $250 cooler line (with flush and service) became a $5k transmission rebuild because even though I stopped as soon as the line let go, a long tow at highway speed with a drained tranny and the driveshaft still in place burnt up my transmission.

Oh, and BTW, the 4 hour delay meant I got towed into town after the close of business on Friday of Presidents Day weekend.

Meals, motel, rental car, return trip to pick up the unit a week later when it was finally fixed cost about another $1k.

But the tow was 'free'..................

Did you call and file a complaint with Marcus (president of GS)? What was his response in reimbursing for the damages related to the towing screw ups??

I sure did. I got an "Oh my, that's not right, we'll get right to the bottom of this!!" kind of reply. In the end, nothing changed, nothing happened, everybody denied everything.

I had one other minor call to them, when the keys got locked in the coach. The tow operator showed up and said "Sorry, they didn't tell me you had that big 'thing' over the cab doors, I can't get my tools in to unlock you? Sorry." GS doesn't know a C class has a 'big thing' over the cab?

Am I surprised, not one bit, it's no different than any other insurance company denying a claim.

Pretty happy with coach net. Had one long distance tow requiring 2 trucks and one quick tow - again 2 trucks (no double towing in Canada). Service was good. Won't be switching.

I had similar concerns when my Coach Net policy came up for renewal. I made a call to call to Good Sam for info on what they provided, and a copy of their contract to compare to the Coach Net one I already had. Nope, couldn't get one until I paid my fee and was under the contract I couldn't read. I went through 3 or 4 levels of supervisors, and still no luck. I did get a fancy sales booklet, but not a copy of the actual contract. I don't buy a pig in a poke, so back to Coach Net. Good Sam's business practices are the BEST ADVERTISEMENT COACH NET COULD HAVE. I have used Coach Net for tire service in Alaska and a "stuck in the mud" pull out 4 times since 2006 and have had no complaints at all. Stick with Coach Net.

with reference to: "Have a flat with no spare..... you are SOL...."

We had a blowout, called Coachnet and explained our situation, they had someone call us who ascertained our situation and came out with a new tire, made the repair, and we followed him to the truck stop where we paid for the tire.

Everything was fine.

"Just remember that cumstances surrounding break downs will effect how long it takes to resolve the issue. Calling for Emergency Roadside Assistance is not the same as driving through McDonalds for hamburgers and fries:"
This ^^^^ quote from member Mark Twain says it all when it comes to Roadside assistance.
Too many expect a magic wand or super natural powers will save them from every possibility.

Get caught need a tow in a snowstorm ....you are SOL.
Have a flat with no spare..... you are SOL....
Middle of nowhere in the middle of the night on a holiday weekend you are .....SOL.

Despite what any literature, advertisements or marketing jargon claim.
If you break down under the wrong circumstances in the wrong area you may have to wait awhile.
I have Roadside assistance to cover the bill which could easily be over $1000.00 if I have to have my combo towed.
Waiting and promptness are the luck of the draw. I hope for the best and am prepared for the worse.
If you break down and need a tow you are having a bad day, how bad is not really the Roadside assistance fault. It is simply the gamble you take when you pull out of the driveway.

I have coachnet and have been satisfied. However I believe they use the same tow operators so in the end I'm not sure how much difference it makes
