Connecting LED Strip Straight To Battery?

I installed a set of those LED light strips on the side of my camper under the awning. I purchased the proper supplies and have it being powered by my 12V system via a light fixture in my front storage. I drilled a hole through my TT at the awning arm because that's where the power cable for the awning goes through. It's a very clean install.

Anyway, I had to cut about 1' off the end of the strip to make it fit under my awning. I've tested the 1' section and it works perfectly. I'd really like to mount this smaller strip on the frame off my trailer by my steps so that they are more visible. I purchased another control box, remote and power plug in order to do this.

I was thinking of hiding the the LED control box in a waterproof junction box and sticking that under the TT somewhere. I'd simply have the eye and the power plug sticking out from the junction box but I'd silicone that hole to seal it.

How would I get power from my battery though? What gauge wire should I use?

Any suggestion on anything? I do have an inline fuse already too.
  • I already have the parts so I'd like to use what I have instead of purchasing something else.
  • Buy one of the all-white strips and don't worry about the control box. I have several wired directly(via a fuse) to 12v source. Inside, across the top of our slides for indirect light. Above dash for indirect light in that area. I got a 5 meter(16 ft) length and some extra connectors, cut it to whatever length I needed. Used leftovers wherever they would fit.
