New to 5th wheels. Going to a 5th wheel from a cab over and dove tail open trailer.Here is the situation. I own a 1999 F550 with pick up bed. Was a ranch truck in AZ. Has a Gooseneck mounted to rails in the bed. I'm working on the purchase of a 39 to 40 foot toy hauler.I have started looking at the 5th wheel hitches. Are these rails universal and will I be able to mount the Q24 to the existing rails? Found a used one. Any thoughts or advice is appreciated as I know nothing about 5th wheels.I'm a firm believer in over kill when it comes to towing. If 16K is good 24K is better. If F350 Dually is Good F550 is better. Don't want to calculate weight.;)

I have the same hitch. My thinking was the same as yours. I bought the hitch new and for $30 more went with the Q24, pulling a 18000# 40' toy hauler.I had a set of old rails and they didn't fit and had to buy new ones. You could measure the pins on the hitch and the holes on the rails to see if the match. If I remember my old set of rails were quite a ways off.

What is critical is the placement of the hitch in the truck's bed so that the pin is over the axle. Mixing/matching rails and hitches might throw off where the pin should be.

Appreciate your input.

I have the same hitch and ordered everything at once. Installed myself with the help of a friend. Took about 3 hours. Something as important as this I would want to go all new with it. That's just me.

Center to center is 22" apart on my truck. I installed mine with the quick install brackets for the truck and everything lined up easily for drilling. If you go to the Curt website you might be able to get install instructions with the measurements as well.

Thanks wild one. Appears to be a standard width. With that measurement I went and looked at the hitch. Same size.

Went and looked at the Q24 for sale. Measured the rails and the hitch. Good fit. Now if we can just come to an agreement on the hitch price I'm in fat city.
Found the toy hauler I want and am negotiating the deal now.

When I purchased my first RV the dealer installed the rails and hitch. Old hitch was a Reese with a slide bar. I didn't know squat about hitches but it worked for over 40,000 miles and began to wear in the slide bar. When I bought a new truck I took the old rails off and had a shop drill for holes. I installed the old Reese rails and hitch on new truck. Got a Curt Q16 at a very good deal. Installed the new Curt onto the old rails. Fit perfect.

What brand is the Gooseneck plate? I believe Curt, Drawtite and Reese use the same rails. Could be wrong.
