Do holding tank weathervanes glue to standard PVC pipe?

Exactly...the unit the OP is looking at comes with 3 screws and is designed to be mounted that way, not glued. YES, for the millionth time we get that you are not putting this on an RV.

My point was that this unit can be mounted to any 1.5" PVE, PVC or ABS pipe using the included screws. You DON'T want a glue install, any type of vent cap is meant to be removable so you can use the vent as a cleanout point for snake access if necessary.

The joint doesn't need to be airtight since air is escaping there anyway, hence why they call it a "vent"...

It's a vent cap... It doesn't need an air tight fit to work properly. Just secure it with a couple of short sheet metal screws. Gluing it will just make what's left of it harder to remove in a few years when it wears out and you want to change it.

It's further up in the thread. I want to hook it to standard PVC pipe to vent a tank NOT on my RV to divert odors away from the house.

BY THE WAY- SINCE NO ONE KNEW THE ANSWER AND MOST (not all) POSTS WANTED TO ANSWER QUESTIONS I WASN'T ASKING ASKING, I bit the bullet and took it to the store with it (The cashier was looking so hard for the barcode to scan it and charge me for it)...

It doesn't really fit schedule 40 1.5" pipe tight enough to call it compatible. A big glob of glue MIGHT work, but it's a tad loose...I can probably "stick it" and it will probably work, but I also bet there will be some gaps in the seal.

I thank those who read before they blurted out the wrong answer, and also thank the one individual who personally observed the loose fit and shared his valuable experience.

Perhaps the OP could reveal the secret as to what he is putting it on. Maybe that will eliminate some of the confusion.

Yes, it gets old. However, if you had read the Installation Instructions posted on Amazon, you may have noted the following:

Note: The Cyclone™ RV Holding Tank Vent was engineered to fit the majority of RV holding tank vent pipes (1-1/2" PVE). PVC and ABS adapters are available at local plumbing and hardware stores to fit other pipe sizes.


The OD of 1-1/2" PVE and PVC are both 1.90", so use the appropriate fittings to change the vent pipe diameter to 1-1/2" on whatever it is you are venting.

You could use some JB-Weld epoxy, but keep in mind that it will be PERMANENT. JB is stronger than the parts you are working with.

In some locations, a change in wind direction is a very good indication of a change in the weather. In other locations, it only means that the wind changed direction.

Some things that MIGHT surprise you when you do this job

1: That pipe that sticks up.. Not PVC, it may be rubber

2: The vent pipe (Black PVC) rattles around inside it, NOT sealed.

Yup,

The "Weather Vane" will either fit inside or outside the rubber,, It won't run away on you.
