Feedback on proposed NV - UT route

Looking at a new route from Ely NV to St George UT. Has anyone driven the one that runs from Ely NV to Panaca NV via US-93 and NV 319E then on UT 56E to Modena UT and UT 18S thru Enterprise and on to St George? Will be pulling a 24' trailer with about 6K on it. Know the truck is very capable and I am very used to mountain driving, just looking for feedback on that particular stretch of road, which I have never driven. Thanks

Proposed Route
  • Thanks to everyone for the feedback. Did the drive today and what awesome scenery on NV319/UT56.

I agree with what most folks said about road type and quality from Panaca to St George. Living in the area and thinking you'll be doing a round trip, consider going via Cedar City for one of the legs.
The only thing is going via Cedar City is about 60+ miles longer. Once the kids move to their new home in Toquerville, then it will be about the same either way.

Google Maps shows only a 7 mile difference between the routes if the Cedar-to-Hurricane leg goes through Toquerville. And it shows an estimated travel time that is virtually identical since the longer route spends more time on I-15 with a higher speed limit.

  • Thanks everyone for the input. I HATE going through SLC and this route is 60 miles shorter from home, so thought we would try it. We go through Ely several times a year and always stop there at the Nevada Casino for the night. Should be a short drive the next day on into Hurricane to the daughters house.
  • We have driven it several times. Fine, paved two lane road that was in good condition each time we drove on it. No gas stations until you are past Enterprise.
Last time we were was in March.
  • We drove in a passenger car Ely to Cedar City through Panaca about 2 years ago. 2 lane paved, no major grades or curves as I recall. No services, pretty empty stretch of land.
