How to handle blowout on Class A

We had an inside rear tire blow on our 36 foot diesel pusher near Edwards AFB .
We had to pull over to the side of the road because the blown tire took out the air suspension hoses .
I had bought this unit used about 6 months prior .
The visible tires were new .
It turns out the inside tires were not new .
Lesson learned .
We spent some extra days behind a tire store in beautiful downtown Mojave California waiting for air suspension parts .

This just happened three weeks ago while heading east. On a curve the inside drivers tire blew. We had no control problem and drove to the next point where I could pull over and safely check the tire. Called Coach Net and told them we would go into the next town. They called back and told me the had a company with a matching tire. A few hours later we were on the road. Down side $763 for the tire. More down side, kissed a pine tree going into the COE park in the dark.

It happened to us in 2000 on I-39 in Ill. south of Rockford. Pulled to side of road,called road service,gent got there without proper tools,had to limp into Rockford to a tire shop. You gotta do what you gotta do.

Now, as for what to do if you blow a dual

Park NOW, (Get to shoulder first) if you can do it safely and call Coach Net (If you have it) for assistance. DO NOT DRIVE with one tire flat.

WHY. If you drive with one (either inside or outside) flat the other tire is hauling 2x it's load. ALso there is danger of"Secondary damage" should the flat shread on you.

This means the "Good" tire, is not good any more. It has been damaged.

That said.. If you see a rest area up ahead.. Driving SLOWLY on the shoulder may be safer than hanging your behind in the breeze from passing semi's.

I also argee with fireman42, but before traveling on the flat, make sure that the tire can "skinny up, meaning it's in 1 piece, but has bead broken from the rim. If not the tire will heat up to the point of combustion and start a fire. I've driven 18, doubles, triples and tracks and I've seen tire fires take out trailers, motorhomes even a car 1 time(actually a blow out that time). Best practice is to get off the road safely to a safe place and either change it of call road service,

This is coming from experience driving a truck (18 wheeler or more if I doubles).

If the tire is coming apart and the tread is flapping in the wind hiting the motor home than stop. But if the tire is just flat and its still in one pice than get off the inter state to a safe place. Just slow down and take it easy. If you only go a short way at like 55 or so you will be fine. I have gone down the road many miles with a flat on the inside so I could get to a safe place.

This is the procedure for a front tire, not a rear inside dual.

For a rear inside dual I would just slow down and pull over.
