No need to camp to see critters...

We frequently get a variety of critters visiting our yard but our favorites are the Bobcats{we also get Mule Deer, Coyotes, Hawks and Owl's as well}. Momma and the twins have been visiting on a regular basis, often spending hours in our back yard. We can watch without disturbing through our sliding glass doors though it does degrade the photo quality a bit.

The games played by the twins often mimic real world hunting skills such as stalking. Mom typically brings the family a fresh killed rabbit and when lunch is through there never so much as a scrap before mom sets out on another hunt leaving the kids to play at our place. Even when she is gone for hours the Kitt's remain right where she left them.

We've seen coyotes, deer and wild turkey from our house. The surprise was the turkeys, since they usually stay down along the river, some 10 miles away as the crow flies, and nothing but open range and corn and wheat fields in between - no brush to give them any cover.

From my window, I can see....various falcons and hawks (mostly Pale Male's descendants), different types of owls; a "racacoon" (as my DGD used to pronounce them) family crossing the street or beaming from the knothole of a tree and recently, chipmunks playing in the undergrowth of a nearby park. Various colorful song birds have become abundant in the city, as well as an egret or two stopping by for a visit. Then there was the coyote who prolly wandered down here via a local commuter train track and wound up "skating" on the ice at a local pond. Was hysterical that some city dwellers thought it was an abandoned dog ๐Ÿ˜„

I live too high up to take decent pictures unfortunately:(.
Still it's a nice respite from the summer season when I can see critters closer to the ground.

My brother lives on the side of a BIG hill (mountain) in Spearfish, SD and they have a herd of wild turkeys who cruise through his back acreage. They like to hop up on the birdbath, tip it over, and break the bowl. There are also mule deer that wander around. When they had their first snow he found tracks of a cougar across his driveway.
When we visited last summer we saw the turkeys and the deer, but no mountain lions.

Bobcats ?

Or wild feral house cats

Feral house cats breed out of proportion to regular wild animals
And can decimate the bird and rodent populations aka rabbit squirrel chipmunk etc..

Forcing fox and bobcat out of the area

Ask people who are song bird fans, what they think of feral cats
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

Thanks, so much, for your great photo! We're in AZ, too and have mounted a trail camera in our yard and we're able to view whatever comes by. I think we've seen it all and now we're hoping for a mountain lion!

coolbreeze01 totally agree with you. Some people just feel the need to kill wild animals. I have never figured them out. I moved from one little town because the men's main sport was shooting cats. What this did for them; I haven't a clue, but they loved to gather at the local coffee shop and brag about their kills.

You are so lucky to get that kind of wildlife in your backyard, they must be absolutely awesome to watch. The only thing we get in our backyard is white tailed deer, skunks and ravens.

Beautiful pictures of the Bobcats and right in your yard too!

We have them, but are a rare sighting in our neck of the woods. Now Black Bears, that's a different story. They are frequent visitors in our yard. Got to keep the barbeque grill stored in the garage and bird feeders hung very high. However, we don't mind. After all, we moved into their back yard. ๐Ÿ™‚

When we lived in Tempe we didn't have to go far to see the critters... Watch them for hours around the Maricopa Mtn/Gila River and always up and down the Apache Trail... The Javelina (some call wild pigs) was the feared ones for me... They always ran in large groups...

Bob cats would be great to watch. I am betting you cannot have any small animals of your own however. I have more deer than I know what to do with, but while they raise hell with the garden they are harmless. We have the usual ground hogs, squirrels, and Muskrats, lots of cottontails and all of this living in the city limits. I envy you getting to watch Bob cats.
